Gracious Threads - Boulder tee & Cache Cargo Shorts

Good day everyone,

Last week I had the chance to test two patterns from Gracious Threads*: Cache Cargo Shorts and Boulder Tee.

I will start with the Cache Cargo Shorts which are a classic pair of cargo shorts with a fully functional zipper fly. Gracious Threads is offering a free tutorial to help with zipper fly.

The back waistband includes elastic for a customized fit.  In my version, I used a button elastic to further customize the fit.   Side pockets close with a flap, while the back of the shorts has faux pockets.

The pattern is drafted for boys but you can easily make a few modifications for girls.  I recommend you read the following blog post on how to modify the DAX trouser for girls.

The second pattern is the Boulder Tee. This is a slim fit boys’ tee that features a crew neck.  The pattern includes a few options: short sleeves, cropped sleeves with a cuff, chest pocket and trim on the sleeves. 

 

My version features the short sleeves with trim. I used knit to create the trim but you could also use other material (ribbon).

I wanted to also point out that Jess also released a new free technique sheet, for Freezer paper stenciling to create the perfect graphic tee.  She shows you how to use Freezer paper, no need for fancy cutting machine.

Un beau bonjour,

la semaine dernière j'ai eu la chance de tester les deux derniers patrons de Gracious Threads : Cache Cargo Bermuda et le chandail Boulder.

Je vais débuter avec le bermuda qui a une coupe classique avec des poches sur le coté.  À l'arrière, on retrouve un élastique pour ajusté la taille ainsi que des volant de poches (juste pour le look!).  Le bermuda a une fermeture éclaire, vous pouvez consulter la fiche technique gratuite pour vous aidez (ainsi que lien a un vidéo dans les instructions). 

Pour ma version, j'ai utilisé un élastique avec boutonnière pour avoir un ajustement à la taille parfait. Le patron est dessiné pour les garçons, mais vous pouvez faire de simple modification pour les filles.  Je vous recommande de lire la publication sur le blog de Gracious Threads concernant les modifications requise pour le pantalon DAX.

Le deuxième patron était un chandail ajusté avec un col près du cou. Le patron inclus deux options de manche.  Ma version inclus l'option de détails sur la manche. 

Jess a aussi publié une autre fiche technique gratuite sur la méthode de stencil avec du papier congélateur (Freezer paper).  Vous pouvez utiliser cette technique pour avoir un chandail personnalisé.

En terminant, Gracious Threads a une grosse vente sur tout les patrons.  La vente est du 29 au 31 mai, utiliser le code suivant "CELEBRATE2500" pour obtenir un rabais de 40%.

Winter Wear Designs - Amuse Boho Top and Dress

 

 

Welcome everyone that is following the Amuse Boho Homecoming blog tour to celebrate the official release of the pattern in the Winter Wear Designs shop. The Amuse Boho pattern was originally released under One Thimble issue #14*.

This was my first time working with Winter Wear Designs patterns. I'm not to sure why since I own a few of them!

I was very pleased to discover that the pattern was designed with body shape in mind. This pattern is designed for a curvy pear or hourglass shape. Don't worry if you are a different shape, I am, the instructions go into details on how to define the modification required based on your shape and how to combine sizes to get the perfect fit.

The Amuse Boho is a relaxed fit raglan pattern designed for woven fabric.  I used a rayon for the blue top and a silky light cotton for the beige tunic. 

The pattern as multiple options of length (designed for women 5’4″ – 5’6”):

• Top - hits right at mid hip
• Tunic - hits just below the bum
• Dress - hits at the knee
• Mini Dress - hits above the knee

The Top and Tunic have a curved shirt tail and the option of a vented hem at the side seam (if you need a little more ease around the hips). The dress has the option of shirt tail and straight hem.

The best feature of this pattern is the front yoke. Which you could use to show off a fun embroidery.  You could also put an embroidery design at the back if your select view B with back yoke.

 

 

 

This pattern is full of options including:

• a large scoop neckline with an optional button front;
• 2 sleeve lengths included. A short sleeve or a 3/4 length sleeve with elastic gathered hem; and 
• 3 neckline finish (bias, band and facing).

Bienvenue tout le monde, cette semaine je participe à la tournée des blogues pour l'arrivée du patron Amuse Boho sur la boutique Winter Wear Designs.  Le patron était au départ seulement disponible avec la revue no. 14 One Thimble*.

Ce petit projet fut ma première experience avec les patrons de Winter Wear Designs, malgré le fait que je possède plusieurs d'entre-eux.

J'ai été très surprise de voir que le designer a pris en considération le type de silhouette pour le dévelopement de ce patron.  Ce patron est spécialement conçu pour les silhouettes pyramide (poire) et sablier.  Les instructions inclus tout les details pour ajuster le patron pour les autres silhouettes pour assurer un ajustement parfait!

L'Amuse Boho est une chemise décontractée avec manche raglan.  Le patron inclus plusieurs options de longueur:

• Chemise
• Tunique
• Robe
• Mini Robe

Le ourlet de la chemise et tunique est légèrement arrondi à l'arrière.  La robe a deux options de ourlet : arrondi ou droit.

Ce patron inclus plusieurs autres options :

• 2 longueurs de manche (courte et 3/4 avec l'option d'élastique);
• 3 options de finition du col (bias, bande ou revers);
• l'ajout de bouton à l'avant;
• ouverture aux hanches; et
• empiècement au dos.

The Fabric Geek - Crystal Gems

Over the last few weeks we discovered the world of Steven Universe. Steven is a young boy who lives in the fictional town of Beach City with the “Crystal Gems” – Pearl, Garnet and Amethyst, three magical humanoid aliens. This animated television series is created by Rebecca Sugar for Cartoon Network. It got my interest when I discovered that it was the first animated series to be solely created by a woman.

 If you are a fan of the cartoon or just love stars, the latest pre-order from The Fabric Geeks is for you. This 4-way stretch fabric is a Cotton Lycra knit (95% Cotton and 5% lycra - 58"/60" wide). The Crystal Gems panel is available in child size (15x18"), teen size (21x30"), and adult size (30x35"). I used a child size for my skinny 8 year old. The pre-order also features a cute spider print.

 

 

This time around I used the Love Notions Moto Maxx* pattern. This pattern is my all-time most used pattern from the Love Notions collection, I love using it for pyjamas.

Au cours des dernières semaines, nous avons découvert la série d’animation Steven Universe. Steven est un jeune garçon qui vit dans une ville prénommé ''Beach City" avec des Gemmes de Cristal, trois extraterrestres humanoïdes à l’apparence féminine dotés de pouvoirs magiques - Grenat, Améthyste et Perle. La série a retenu mon attention lorsque j’ai découvert que c’était la première série d’animation créé uniquement par une femme.

 

 

Le tissu The Fabric Geeks a une très bonne élasticité. C'est un mélange Cotton Lycra (95% Cotton and 5% lycra - 58"/60" de large).

Le panneau "Crystal Gems" est disponible en 3 grandeurs : enfant (15x18"), adolescent (21x30"), et adulte (30x35"). J'ai utilisé un panneau enfant pour mon grand garcon de 8 ans. (veuillez noter qu'il est maigrichon !)

Pour ce test, j’ai utilisé le patron de Love Notions – Moto Maxx* pour créer un pyjamas d'été. Le Moto Maxx est mon patron le plus utilisé de la collection de Love Notions. Le patron est parfait pour les garçons maigrichons. J’ai fait une simple modification au pantalon puisque la version au genou ne fait pas partit des options du patron.

Jennuine Design - Schooner Tee & Dress

Hello, I'm very excited today to present you with the latest pattern from Jennuine Design*.  This was my first time working with one of her patterns.  I've been looking at the Dressage Leggings for a while but I haven't tried them yet! 

I would like to start with the introduction of the designer behind the brand.  My first contact with Jennifer was when I won the #pdflove contest on PDF Pattern Sale and Promotion, she is one of the admin on the group. 

A few weeks ago, I had the chance to test along with her as she was also part of the Mouse House Creations testing team for the Janie Dress.  How awesome is that!

Jennifer mainly designs patterns for girls but she also has a few matching doll 15" & 18'' patterns.

I invite you to visit her website, she has a Tiny Sewists* series ''Teaching kids how to sew''. She also has a few free patterns on her shop. Just saying.

Back to the pattern I tested last week, the Schooner Tee & Dress.  This is such a quick sew, only 3 pattern pieces (front, back and neckband).  The pattern features a ruffled dolman sleeves, which gives a very girly style to your tee & dress.

The tee is slightly a-line with straight or high-low hems.  My tee version features a high-low hem.  The dress is a fuller a-line with a subtle high-low hem.  The pattern also comes with inseam pockets on the dress version.  I have a few more options to try!

This style is recommended for light to medium knits (with 25-40% 2-way stretch) like jersey, cotton lycra, lightweight French terry or Ponte de Roma. Both versions presented here are cotton lycra from older custom print from The Fabric Geeks.

Je suis très contente de vous présenter le dernier patron de la collection de Jennuine Design*.  Ce fut ma première expérience avec un des patrons de ce désigner. 

Pour débuté, j'aimerai introduire le désigner chez Jennuine Design. J'ai eu mon premier contact avec Jennifer lorsque j'ai gagné le concours hebdomadaire #pdflove du groupe PDF Pattern Sale and Promotion. Jennifer est une des administrateurs du groupe Facebook. 

Il y a maintenant quelques semaines, j'ai eu la chance de tester à ses cotés dans l'équipe de testeurs pour Mouse House Creations.  WOW !!!

Jennifer a une collection de patrons pour filles et poupées de 15" & 18''.  Elle offre aussi quelques patrons gratuits. 

Je vous invite a visiter son site internet, elle a une série de publications pour introduire les enfants à la couture Tiny Sewists*  ''Teaching kids how to sew''.  

Maintenant le patron, Schooner Tee & Dress !  Ce projet fut très rapide, seulement 3 pièces de patron (devant, derrière et la bande d'encolure).  Le Schooner a une coupe décontracté avec manches chauve-souris et volants.

Le t-shirt a deux options de finition : bande droite et courbe.  Ma version avec les chats représente la version avec courbe.

La robe a une coupe plus décontracté que le t-shirt avec courbe. Cette version a aussi l'option d'ajouter des poches au niveau des coutures.  J'ai encore quelques options a essayer !

Pour ce patron, il est recommandé d'utilisé un tricot cotton avec une élasticité de 25 à 40%.  J'ai utilisé un cotton lycra provenant de The Fabric Geeks pour les deux projets.

The Fabric Geeks - Live Long and Prosper Round

Hello,

My adventure with The Fabric Geeks strike off tester team continues with the Live Long and Prosper Round.  I was able to test The Empire Cotton Lycra "Klingon" from the current  pre-order.    This collection features custom fabric inspired from the Star Trek theme.  If you are a fan you should have a look at the panels, the colours are so nice.

 

The Fabric Geeks print on Oeko Tex ® certified cotton lycra knit fabric, 95% Cotton 5% lycra, with 4 way stretch.

 

The fabric is digitally printed with a weight that may vary from 250-270GSM.  Which means it is heavier than most jersey knit (195GSM - 220GSM). It is approximately 56-60” wide including selvage with at least 54” of usable fabric.

This is my second time using the Elliedactyle Lyric Hoodie. My first version was cute but I didn't like the construction of this hoodie.  I changed a few things and I liked it a lot better! 

I used buttons instead of snaps and I added a ribbon to cover the seam around the hood and neckline.  I don't like when you can see the serge seam.  Please note, the fit is really slim on this pattern.

 

 

If you wonder I order a lot from The Fabric Geeks, I’m a real costumer not just a tester.  I’m a huge fan of the plain black cotton lycra (bottom part of the sleeves).  I ordered three yards the last time and I will have to order some again.

New this round is the Double Brushed Poly (96% polyester, 4% spandex). I will probably order the Cosmos Double Brushed for some funky top.

I also made a pair of "Awesome" boxer.  This specific pattern is Jalie #2327 unfortunately, it is no longer available and it was replaced by #3242   which offers better comfort (per the designer).

This was a fun project and allowed us to introduce the kids to Star Trek.

Je continu mon aventure avec l'équipe de test The Fabric Geeks et la collection "Live Long and Prosper".  J'ai testé le cotton lycra The Empire - "Klingon" inspiré de Star Trek. Si vous êtes un amateur de la série vous devez jeter un coup d'œil aux panneaux. 

Le tissu est imprimé sur un cotton certifié Oeko Tex ®  (95% Cotton, 5% lycra).  Le dessin est imprimé digitalement sur un tissu variant de 250 à 270 GSM.  Ceci veut dire que le poids est plus élevé que la majorité des tissés cotton jersey (195 à 220 GSM). 

C'est la deuxième fois que j'utilise le patron Lyric Hoodie de Elliedactyle.  Ma première version était adorable, mais je n'aimais pas la construction.  J'ai fais quelques modifications incluant l'utilisation de buttons au lieu de buttons pression et j'ai ajouté un ruban autour du capuchon et cou pour cacher la couture à la surjetteuse.

J'utilise souvent les tissus The Fabric Geeks, j'adore le cotton lycra uni noir (celui sur les manches et la bande du bas).


Il y du nouveau chez The Fabric Geeks, il offre maintenant un mélange polyester et spandex (Double Brushed Poly 96% polyester, 4% spandex).  Je vais probablement faire l'essai du Cosmos.

J'ai aussi fait une paire de sous-vêtement avec un patron de Jalie #2327.  Ce patron à été remplacé par le #3242, pour offrir un meilleur confort selon le désigner.

Filles à Maman - Souris & Caramel

Hello,
Today is very special, I have two patterns to show you and lot of pictures!

Souris Tunic & straight legging

I had the opportunity in the past to test for Les Filles à Maman (see here).  I completed the testing a few weeks ago and I have to say that the outfit has been coming back in the laundry on a regular basis. Definitely a huge hit with my princess.   

Both patterns have been designed for stretch fabrics with at least 30 -50%.  This is important for the Caramel legging. I tried with French Terry (stretch of 25%) and the results were not as good.  I may try again but I will do the next size up.

Souris* is a modern top or tunic with a box pleat on the side and large hem band. Stripe fabric is the optimal style for this pattern.  You get diagonal design at the back.  So cool!

Caramel* is a modern style legging, I made the straight line style.  I do have a few more ideas for this one, including using handmade stretch piping. 

I would like to try the curvy version and I’m also planning to make an active wear legging when I have a chance. My princess is wearing active wear on a daily basis with her 5-6 ice times a week.   You may see more of the Caramel legging!

aujourd'hui je vous présente deux nouveaux patrons de la collection Blanc de Les Filles à Maman (FAM). 


J'ai eu l'opportunité au cours des derniers mois de tester quelques patrons pour les FAM (voir ici !).  Ce que je vous présente aujourd'hui, a déjà fait plusieurs tours dans le panier à lavage.  Je considère donc cela comme une belle réusite !

Les deux patrons sont dessinés pour un tissue tricot avec une élasticité de 30-50%.  Ceci est important, puisque j'ai fait l'essai avec un terry français avec 25% d'élasticité et je n'ai pas obtenu un bon résultat.  

Le chandail Souris est un style modern avec un plis sous la manche et une bande aux hanches.  Si vous aimez les tissues rayés, ce patron est parfait pour l'obtention d'un beau design au dos.

Le pantalon Caramel* est un "legging" avec un petit quelque chose.   Ma version représente la version avec lignes droites.  J'ai l'intention de faire les autres options (au genou et ligne courbée).  Je veux aussi essayé de faire une version athlétique.  Tellement de possibilities !
