Halloween part 2

 

Project Halloween number two, Deku from My Hero Academia.  As a starter, I have no clue what this character is about!  You can find the Pokémon costume here.

The top part of this costume has a lot of color blocking, so I started with the Titchy Threads Rowan tee pattern, one of my all-time favorite patterns for the boys.  The different options of the pattern gave me a good starting point for this costume.  I used the cuffed sleeve option as well the shoulder/sleeve color bloc option.

 

For the pants I used the Apostrophe patterns pants, this was my first time using it for this guy.  He is very athletic, so he has muscular thighs, and he is usually uncomfortable in joggers unless they are made for athletic kids. I love the concept behind Apostrophe and using your own measurements to create your perfect pattern. I will use it again for him.

 

Finally, I use the Sofiona Designs   Permafrost faux sleeve pattern for the gloves, which is a free pattern for kids and miss.

5 out of 4 - Sleepy Jean Halloween

 

Halloween Costumes are always my favorite projects of the year. I love the brainstorming behind creating each of those projects.  Those projects always require some thinking outside the box and trying new things. I love the challenge. 

I started from a drawing from the boys and internet pictures to help me recreate those characters.   My first project was a Pokémon Charmander.  You can find the second project, Deku from My Hero Academia here.

The basis for this project was to create an onesie, I started with 5 out of 4 pattern sleepy jean* pattern.  I cut a size 12 and extended the length of the trunk for my son’s size.  The trunk measurement is key in making Onesie.  

One major detail was the contrasting stomach piece.  I drafted an oval piece which I cut in two.  To help with keeping the overall piece in place I use iron-on adhesive HeatnBond.  I also use one of the design stitches from my sewing machine to give a Coverstitch style to my finish. 

 

The tail was another feature of this costume, I use this tutorial to create the shape of the tail: dino tail tutorial, I stuffed the tail and ask my son to draw the fire design.  I also used HeatnBond to keep everything in place.

The next addition was the eyes, I created them using the cricut software. I got the inspiration from images available on the internet. 

 

The fabric used for this project came from L'Oiseau fabrics.  

Maike solid French Terry Orange with 50% stretch lengthwise and 25% stretch widthwise. The fabric is very soft, I love the quality.

Rebecca Page - Felt Wings

Good day,

It is never too early to start on your Halloween or pretend play projects.  This time, I had the chance to try out the felt wings pattern and tutorial from Rebecca Page*.

The pattern comes with three sizes:

• small for children under 2 years
• medium for children between 2-6 years
• large for children between 6-12 years

The pattern also come with cutting instructions on how to make them fit your child.  

The pattern includes 4 feather shapes so you can let your imagination go wild. I'm working on a matching yellow bird for my middle child. They will have lot of fun with those wings.

It was a fun little project. More from the same designer my owl cape.

Un beau bonjour, 

J'ai eu la chance d'essayer le patron d'ailes en feutre de la collection de Rebecca Page*. 

Le patron a trois grandeurs :

• petit pour les enfants de moins de 2 ans ;
• moyen pour les enfants entre 2 et 6 ans ;
• grand pour les enfants entre 6 et 12 ans. 

Le patron inclus aussi les instructions pour ajuster les grandeurs a votre enfant. 

Il y a 4 formes de plumes pour créer, selon votre imagination, votre propre créature. Pensez à un oiseau, perroquet, aigle, ou encore un dragon.

Ce fut un beau petit projet. J'ai un autre projet similaire sur le blog du même designer la cape d'hibou.

Mother Grimms Designs - Dragon Wings

Good day everyone,

Last week, I had my daughter Halloween costume - owl cape.  Today, I'm roaring with a pair of dragon wings.

Furthermore,  I would like to introduce you to a new designer Mother Grimms Designs.  This pattern is the second pattern of her collection the first one was published by One Thimble.

This pattern is a free standing, flexible wing design with "natural" movement. Another great pattern to let your imagination go wild. 

The wings pattern come in three sizes small (approx. 3-5 years) medium (6-10 years) and large (11-15 years).  I made the medium size for my 7 years old. 

I completed my wings using woven fabric but you can also use knit fabric. 

What you will need to complete this project:

• Quilting cotton or jersey (nothing that may melt from steam ironing);
• Fusible fleece;
• Sew in medium - heavy weight interfacing;
• Batting; and
• Synthetic whale boning. 

Synthetic whale boning is the secret behind the "natural" movement of those wings.  Boning is what you use in strapless dress  (i.e wedding dress) or standing men shirt collar.

My boy is very exited and he has been wearing his wings almost everyday since completion.  I think this one is a winner.  I probably need to make another pair for his brother.

La semaine dernière, je vous ai montré mon costume de hibou.  Maintenant, c'est le tour de ma paire d'ailes de dragon.

Pour débuté, je voudrais vous presenter une nouvelle designer Mother Grimms Designs.  Je vous présente aujourd'hui son deuxième patron de sa collection.  Le premier a été publié dans la revue One Thimble.

Ce patron a l'illusion de movement «naturel» et  vous permettera de laisser place à votre imagination!

Le patron est disponible en trois grandeurs : Petit (environ 3 à 5 ans); moyen (6-10 ans); et grand (11-15 ans).  Pour mon grand de 7 ans, j'ai fais la grandeur moyen. J'ai utilise du coton tissé pour mes ailes mais vous pouvez aussi utilise du tricot.

Qu'est ce que vous aurez besoin pour completer ce projet :

• Coton tissé ou tricot ;
• Molleton termocollant ;
• Bourre à piquer ;
• Entoilage ; et
• Bande de baleine au mètre.

La bande de baleine est le secret pour le movement des ailes.  Les bandes de baleine est ce qu'on utilise dans les corsets de robe sans bretelle ou pour tenir les cols de chemise pour homme.

Mummykins & Me - Owl Cape

Good day everyone,

 

Summer is already behind us, the leafs have already changed colour.  My favorite fall event is Halloween.  For the past few years, I have been making my kids Halloween costumes.  This year will be a little different, I don’t have a theme for the three of them but I have brand new patterns to show you! 

 

I started this year Halloween costume with the latest pattern from Mummykins & Me (affiliate link) –Cape-tastic.

 

This pattern testing was somewhat different than an usual testing,  the designer gave us the ability to go wild!  I decided to make an Owl as per the pattern instructions since I had an Owl costume in my Pinterest board for years and it is my daughter favorite animal. 

 

This pattern is very versatile and the majority of the testers when wild with the pattern.  With the numerous options, the designer decided to include a section in the instruction with over 34 modification options.  The section includes pictures and instruction on how you can turn your basic cape pattern into nearly any creature!

For my version I used felt for the feathers, which required 198 of them!  Cutting the feathers was the longest part of this project.  You will require a fabric that would not fray for the feather.   I made the 8-12 years size for my daughter. 

 

The pattern also comes in adult sizes (XS to XL).   The pattern is currently on sale for $6.50 for the kids version or $8 for the Adult and Kids bundle until October 31, 2016.

l’été est déjà derrière nous et l’automne a déjà commencé à nous montrer ses belles couleurs.  Mon évènement préféré de l’automne est sans surprise l’halloween.  J’adore faire les costumes pour mes enfants, cette année sera un peu différent car je n’ai pas un thème commun pour les trois. Mais j’ai des nouveaux patrons à vous montrer!

Aujourd'hui, je vous présente mon premier costume d’Halloween.  J’ai fait partie de l’équipe de test pour le dernier patron de Mummykins & Me (lien affilié) – Cap-tastique.

 

Cette période de test fut un peu différente, le désigner nous a donné carte blanche avec le patron  J’ai décidé de faire un hibou selon les instructions du patron, puisque c’est l’animal préféré de ma fille.

 

Ce patron est très polyvalent, la majorité des testeurs ont profité de la carte blanche offerte par le designer.  Ce qui a permis d’inclure dans les instructions plus de 34 options de modification pour vous aider à transformer votre patron de base en presque n’importe quelle créature ! 

 

Je vous invite à visiter le site (lien affilié) pour voir les différentes versions.  J’ai vraiment aimé la version du dragon Thoothless et celui du papillon. 

 

Pour ma version, j’ai utilisé 198 plumes de feutrine!  Vous aurez besoin d’un tissu qui ne s’ effiloche pas pour les plumes.   Couper les plumes, est la plus longue partie de ce projet. 

 

J’ai fait la taille de 8 à 12 ans pour ma fille.  Le patron est aussi disponible en tailles adultes (XS à XL).   Le patron est présentement en vente, jusqu’au 31 octobre 2016, pour 6.50$ pour enfant et 8$ pour le combo adulte et enfant. 

 

À venir, lorsque le patron est disponible, un autre costume d’Halloween.
