5OO4 - Wilbur Sweatpants

 

My kids spend a lot of time in sweatpants, they don't like jeans!  I decided to try the Wilbur Sweatpants from 5 out of 4 patterns.  I like the shape of the leg, not too wide and not too skinny.  It was just perfect for my teenager skinny legs. 

The pattern features a few options:

- Short and pants

- Hemmed and cuffed or encased elastic

- Waistband drawstring

- Side seam pockets

 My version features the cuffed and side seam pockets. I see more of those in the future!

Designed for Knit fabric with minimal stretch I used a French Terry with 80% cotton, 20% poly (310gsm) from 5 Oceans Fabric

5 out of 4 - Kids Sheila Everyday Tee

Un beau bonjour,

J'espère que vous avez passé un superbe été et que l'automne s'annonce magnifique pour vous. Il y a quelques semaines, je me suis joint à l'équipe de promotion de 5OO4!  Mon objectif est de vous présenter un nouveau projet tous les mois. Je commence mon aventure avec le chandail de tous les jours Sheila pour enfant pour continuer mon thème du retour en classe. 

 

Première étape est de faire l'essai d'un patron simple pour vérifier la gradeur idéale. Au départ, je voulais faire ce chandail pour mon grand, mais le chandail fait beaucoup mieux à mon plus jeune.  Mes deux garçons ont des mesures similaires.  Les différences sont aux hanches et la hauteur. 

Le patron recommande un tissu léger à moyen avec un 25% d'extensibilité à l'horisontale. Pour le col, un tissu avec 50% d'extensibilité est recommandé.  Mon tissu avait 50% d'extensibilité, j'ai utilisé le même tissu pour le chandail et le col.

Les ressources de couture et d'ourlet sont intégrées dans le patron.  Les tailles débutent à 0-3 mois jusqu'à 14 ans. 

Quelques options sont inclus:

-    3 grandeurs de manche (courte, 3/4 et longue)

-    2 grandeurs pour le ourlet (chandail et robe)

The Fabric Geeks - The Mix #1 (part 2)

So it turned out to be a busy January, this is part 2 of The Mix #1.  

I have three more prints to show you from the current preorder from The Fabric Geek.

I am a huge fan of the following pattern, the Rowan Tee from Titchy Threads.  I used the ''Math Nerd'' as the main fabric for this Tee and the ''Monochrome Doodle'' for the shoulder accents.

Ma machine à coudre à été très occupé en janvier. Voici la deuxième partie de la collection ''The Mix #1'' de la précommande de The Fabric Geeks.

J'ai commencé avec un de mes patrons préférés, le Rowan Tee de Titchy Threads avec le tissu ''Math Nerd'' avec le ''Monochrome Doodle'' sur les manches.

This little guy has been growing so he got lucky, I got good results with the Explorer Raglan from MBJM, so I decided to try another pattern from her collection. So I tried the Cottesloe Cowl. I used the same size than the Explorer Raglan but it turned a little big on my model. I love the colors of the ''Extinction'' fabric and the little round pockets.

Mon grand garçon grandit rapidement alors il a eu droit à un autre chandail.  J'ai obtenu un bon résultat avec le premier patron que j'ai essayé de MBJM  alors j'en ai essayé un autre. Cette fois-ci j'ai fait l'essai du Cottesloe cowl. Le chandail est un peu grand pour lui, pourtant j'ai utilisé la même grandeur que l'explorer raglan.  C'est quand même une belle réussite, j'adore les couleurs du tissu et les petites poches rondes.

The last print I had the chance to try-out is the ''Sweet things''.  I thought it would be fun to use that print on some gym clothing. So I used the Agility Tank from 5 out of 4 patterns* and the girls stride from Greenstyle Creations*.

Pour le dernier tissu, je me suis amusé avec le thème.  Des sucreries pour une ensemble de gym.  J'ai utilisé le patron Agility Tank de 5 out of 4 patterns* et girls stride de Greenstyle Creations*. 

In addition to the strike off from The Fabric Geeks, I tested the revised version of the Love Notions* Trendy Tunic.  I used the ''Sweet things'' for the details of the tunic.

En terminant, j'ai testé la version révisée du patron Trendy Tunic de Love Notions*. Le ''Sweet things'' était parfait pour ce projet.

Love Notions - Thomas Track Pants

Good day,

I'm very pleased to present you the latest pattern from Love Notions - Thomas Track Pants.* 

Those pants are perfect for all those active boys (or girls). You can use a variety of woven and stable knit fabric to reach the look you are looking for.  This pattern is full of options.  I tested the view A without any option.  The view A could also be lined.  The other options are seams pockets and zippers at the ankles.

This pattern also includes a color blocked version.  I will be trying that version for sure! I just need to find the perfect fabric. The pattern is offered in a wide range of sizes (2T - 14). 

For my version i used a textured sweatshirt (50% cotton/ 50% polyester).  The fabric is available at L'Oiseau Fabric.

During testing I made a few pairs, including a comfy pair of lounge pants out of flannel fabrics.

Un beau bonjour, je suis vraiment contente de vous présenter le dernier patron de Love Notions - Thomas Track Pants*.  Ce patron est parfait pour tous les sportifs (fille ou garçon). Le patron est offert dans les tailles de 2T à 14 ans.

Le patron convient pour des tissus tissés ou tricot épais, vous permettant d'avoir le style recherché.

Durant la période de test, j'ai fait la version A du patron avec un tricot épais. J'ai utilisé un cotton ouaté, ce tissu est disponible à l'Oiseau Fabric.

Le patron inclus aussi la possibilité d'ajouter une doublure, des poches et des fermetures éclaires aux chevilles.

Avez-vous vu la version B ci-haut, avec des tissus contrastants? Je vais l'essayer c'est sure.  Vous pouvez aussi utilisé ce patron pour faire un pantalon pyjama en flanelle.

Challenge - Defi #2

Second week of the sewing challenge and I'm already behind posting here! 

The goal last week was to sew something from the last fabric we bought. I accepted the challenge and used the merino jacquard knit I ordered from the L'oiseau Fabric.

Jacquard knits are a special fabric, the yarn is dyed separately then knitted together to create beautiful design. This fabric absorbs moisture without feeling damp and is gentle on the skin making it the perfect choice for long underwear for our upcoming ski trip.

For the top, I used ''Hang Ten Rash Guard'' from Peek-a-boo*. I bought this pattern a few years ago and used it before for hockey underwear with dry-fit fabric.

For the bottom, I used ''All you need jammies pajamas'' from Heidi & Finn. Another pattern that I used multiple times.

Note on the fabric, Merino wool is by nature antibacterial, it doesn't require washing. If it is required, preferably wash by hand in lukewarm water with wool washing agent or olive oil soap.

Deuxième semaine du défi de couture et je suis déjà en retard avec ma publication sur le blog!   Le but de la semaine dernière était de coudre quelque chose avec le dernier tissu que nous avons acheté.

J'ai accepté le défi et utilise un tricot de jacquard Merino que j'ai commandé chez L'oiseau Fabric.

Le tricots de jacquard sont des tissue spéciaux, les fils sont teint séparament puis tricot ensemble pour créer le tissu. Ce tissu absorbe l'humidité sans se sentir humide et est très doux sur la peau. Donc le choix parfait pour des sous-vêtements pour notre prochain voyage de ski.

Pour le haut, j'ai utilisé le ''Hang Ten Rash Guard'' de Peek-a-boo*. J'ai acheté ce patron il y a déjà quelques années, j'ai fait des sous-vêtement de hockey avec du tissu ''dry-fit''.

Pour le pantalon, j'ai utilisé ''All you need jammies pajama'' de Heidi & Finn. Un autre patron que j'ai utilisé plusieurs fois.

Note sur le tissu, la laine Merino est par nature antibactérien et n'a pas besoin d'être lavé. Si un lavage est nécessaire, il est preferable de laver à la main dans l'eau tiède avec un agent de lavage pour la laine ou un savon d'huile d'olive.

Handmade Holiday Tour

I love this time of the year.  Holiday music, baking, hot chocolate and marshmallows, and best of all watching “Home Alone” with the kids. The kids always laugh at the robbers when they try to get into the house (burning handle, iced front steps, tool box coming down the stairs…).  I love holiday traditions and I thought for this Love Notions Holiday Handmade blog tour I would share with you one of my family holiday handmade traditions.

This tradition started when my princess was a baby.  I was shopping at my local fabric store and saw a cute Angel print and decided to make her a new holiday pajama to wear on Christmas morning. Not only was it fun but made for great photos in the morning.  This was the beginning of a 10 year holiday tradition of kids matching pajamas for Christmas morning.

Usually, I select a new style for my Christmas morning pjs.  This year, I selected two Love Notions patterns:  Prisma Dress & Moto Maxx .  The Moto Maxx pj version is not new in our house, I have made a few of them using that pattern but they are now all too small for my middle child.

First up is the Prisma dress* , I made no modifications to the pattern.  I selected the scoop version, ¾ sleeve length and went up one size.  I was looking for a more loose style to ensure sleeping comfort.  If you have a closer look at the picture you can see another family holiday tradition.  My husband and I are having quite some fun with that guy.  As you can see, he gets in trouble almost every night!

Secondly, I made the Moto Maxx for the boys pjs.  No modification to the pattern. I skipped the pockets making it a quick sew!  I usually make the short sleeve version but I received a special request from this guy.

My princess’ AG doll also get her own version of this year Christmas pjs.  I used the latest pattern Doll LDT that was released during this Handmade Holiday Tour.

Mouse House Creations - Dress Up Hoodie

I love being creative and making costumes for my kids. It is so much fun.

This year again, I had the chance to test a few patterns that I used for my kids school costumes. Our school has very strict rules on what the kids are allowed to wear for the school Halloween activities (including no mask). Those patterns were perfect to meet all those rules and ensure that my kids had a lot of fun with their costume.

First up, is the brand new pattern from Mouse House Creations. The Dress Up hoodie* is full of options to create the perfect raglan tee.

Bunny, Unicorn, Horse, Dinosaur, Shark, Mouse, Cat, Deer, Butterfly, Bat, Owl/Bird or let your creativity go wild.

During testing, I made two versions of the pattern. 

We tried the bat (bat wing cape and ear), my son was so excited by this hoodie that he could not stand still to take some pictures. He needed to try-out the bat wing.  He needed to know how fast he needs to run to get the cape to fly!

My second version was inspired by the yellow Angry Birds. I used a feather boa from the dollar store Halloween section for the head and tail of my bird.

There is a few options available in the PDF world to create the perfect Dress-up hoodie.  What I really like about the Mouse House Creations is the hood and sleeve. They have been created with the accents in mind. The pattern has two set of sleeve and hood depending on the options (accent) selected for your creation.

Another thing you should consider is the sizing, my kids are more on the skinny side and I haven’t made any modifications to this pattern.

There is some PDF pattern brands that I stay away from because they are designed for larger kids.  It requires too many modifications to accommodate my kids shapes.

I will be using this pattern* again for just a plain raglan but also for Christmas, I really want to try the Reindeer version!

J'adore l'automne surtout pour la fête d'halloween.  Cette année encore, j'ai eu la chance de testé de nouveaux patrons pour mes costumes d'halloween.

Pour débuté, j'ai testé le dernier patron de Mouse House Creations Dress Up Hoodie*.  Ce patron n'est pas juste un chandail mais aussi le parfait costume pour tout les jours.

Durant la période de test, j'ai fais deux chandails.  Une chauve-souris avec les ailes et un oiseau inspiré des Angry Birds.

Le patron inclus plusieurs options : Lapin, chat, souris, chauve-souris, unicorne, cheval, dragon et hibou.  Mais le plus important vous avez le parfait gabarit pour laisser votre imagination s'épanouir!  

J'ai beaucoup aimé la construction du capuchon et des manches. Le patron est conçu pour l'ajout de toute sorte d'éléments. 

Il y a plusieurs options de chandail de ce type sur le marché.  Un autre élément important est le tableau des grandeurs.  Mes garçons sont plutôt mince et je n'ai pas fait de modifications pour ajuster le patron.

Je planifie utiliser ce patron* au moins une autre fois, je veux essayer le chevreuil et probablement la souris pour notre prochain voyage à Disney !

The Fabric Geeks - Through the Stones

Over the last month,  I worked on a few new items for my growing boy. This skinny guy was the reason behind my return to sewing on a regular basis. His closet is filled with mommy made clothes.

I started my back to school sewing with some strike off fabric from the current pre-order at The Fabric Geeks ''Through the Stones''.  I was sent the Inverness Plaid which is a 95% cotton and  5% lycra knit.  This is 4 way stretch with a very good weight (250-270 gsm).  This Inverness Plaid is also available in French Terry.

A little bit about the pattern, I used the Titchy Threads Safari raglan.  I truly love the fit of this pattern, I went one size bigger for this shirt because I wanted him to wear it more than only a few months. I used this pattern for the boys but also for my princess. Last Christmas, I even used it as a pyjama top.

I had a little bit of left over fabric so I decided to use it for another long sleeve tee.  The pattern is also from Titchy Threads, Hawthorn. This pattern was my first pattern I tested over three years ago. My youngest still wears it.  I love this pattern a lot, with all the little details that make this look so perfect.

The applique is from Planet Applique. It has been a long time I had used my embroidery machine. I love adding some personalisation to my creations.

The pre-order is open from Aug 28 to Sept 14.  There is also solid matching colour and panels available. This little guy has no clue about the theme associated with the fabric, but he loves the Celtic style and the fact that it is green.

Mon grand garçon, qui est en pleine croissance, avait besoin de nouveaux vêtements pour la rentrée des classes.  Ce garçon maigrichon est la principale raison de mon retour à la couture.
 
J’ai débuté ma collection de la rentrée des classes avec le tissu de la dernière précommande ‘Through the Stones’ chez The Fabric Geeks. La propriétaire m’a envoyé le plaid Iverness pour en faire l'essai.  Ce tissue à motifs de carreaux écossais est un tricot (95% cotton et 5% lycra avec poids de 250-270 gsm).  Ce plaid est aussi disponible en cotton français. 
 
Pour le patron, j’ai choisi le Safari raglan de Titchy Threads un de mes préférés.  J’ai coupé une grandeur plus grande, en espérant qu’il va le porter une bonne partie de l’hiver.  J’ai utilisé ce patron autant pour ma fille que pour les garçons.  J’ai même fait des hauts de pyjamas avec ce patron.
 
Avec les restants de tissu du Iverness,  j’ai fait un autre chandail à manches longues de la collection de Titchy Threads.  Le Hawthorn fut le premier patron que j’ai testé; il y a déjà plus de 3 ans.

Ce patron est surprenant avec plusieurs détails de construction. J'adore le col, la fermeture éclaire est complètement caché. Une très belle finition.  

J'ai ajouté un petit brin de personnalité avec un appliqué sur le devant en utilisant une machine à coudre de broderie.  Ce dessin provient de Planet Applique, ma boutique préférée pour dessin d'enfants.
