Welcome to Rebecca Page Comfy Town blog tour.  

I am very excited by this blog tour theme. In my corner of the world the snow has already covered the grass and the kids already built their first snowman. Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean we cannot stay cute and cozy.

I had so many ideas for this blog tour, I decided to settle on a few key pieces for my princess! 

The first item is the Child’s Pippa Pants* pattern.  This super comfy stretch pants was perfect for showing off this cute knit print. This organic relief knit jacquard (Polar Bears, taupe) is a little heavier than your regular cotton knit.  Perfect for those cooler days.

I love how quick sew those pants are, no side seams.  This is my third pairs of Pippa pants for my princess.  This time, I went up one size to get the comfy style I was looking for but I needed to do something with the waist band which was too big on her.  This pattern doesn’t call for an elastic but I inserted a 1.5” wide knit elastic in the waist band to adjust that. 

My second key piece is the Cora Cocoon cardigan* in a French Terry.  Another quick sew.  The Cora Cocoon is a fun cardigan to keep you warm and cozy during those cooler days.  I used French Terry for the sleeve as well, making them slimmer.  Keep in mind that French Terry has less stretch than jersey knit or ribbing.  You can find my cozy ladies version here.

The final piece of this outfit is the classic tee for girls from Love Notions*.  I was originally hoping to use the new Strappy cami but she's still too small. Hint Hint we need a girls version!

I used a modal jersey knit which drapes beautifully.  Modal fibers create a silky soft fabric making it the perfect choice for Comfy Town outfit.  All fabrics used in this project came from L'Oiseau Fabric.

This Pippa Pants and Cora Cocoon patterns are available in child, dolls and ladies version.  This project is perfect for beginner sewistas, I have another pair of Pippa Pants cut in the same fabric for me and I made a little surprise for my Princess that she has not seen yet, psst don't tell her!

Jennuine Design - Skiff tee

 

Hello,

Last week, I had the chance to test the latest pattern from Jennuine Design. The Skiff Tee pattern is a simple slim-fitting tee with a bateau neckline. 

 

The Skiff Tee is available in children’s sizes newborn to 12 years. The pattern includes a few options straight hem, vented hem with a slightly longer back and secret chest pocket!  

 

I’m sure it would become a staple with the color blocking details on the bodice and sleeve.  The skiff is meant for girls and boys, Jenn is working on an expansion pack to take the Skiff Tee into a Skiff dress.  I cannot wait to try it!

Un beau bonjour,

 

La semaine dernière, j'ai eu la chance de tester le dernier patron de Jennuine Design.  Le tee-shirt* skiff est un chandail simple avec un encolure en bateau.

 

Le tee-shirt skiff est disponible en tailles nouveau-nés jusqu'à 12 ans.  Le patron comprend quelques options ourlet droit, ourlet ventilé avec un dos légèrement plus long et poche secrète au niveau de la poitrine.

 

Je suis sûr qu'il deviendra un patron de base avec les détails.  Moi j'adore le detail au niveau du dos.

 

  

Le skiff est destiné aux filles et aux garçons, Jenn travaille sur un patron d'extension pour prendre le tee Skiff et en faire un version complèment fille, pensez robe.

Handmade Holiday Tour

Hello,  

I love this time of the year.  Holiday music, baking, hot chocolate and marshmallows, and best of all watching “Home Alone” with the kids. The kids always laugh at the robbers when they try to get into the house (burning handle, iced front steps, tool box coming down the stairs…).  I love holiday traditions and I thought for this Love Notions Holiday Handmade blog tour I would share with you one of my family holiday handmade traditions.

This tradition started when my princess was a baby.  I was shopping at my local fabric store and saw a cute Angel print and decided to make her a new holiday pajama to wear on Christmas morning. Not only was it fun but made for great photos in the morning.  This was the beginning of a 10 year holiday tradition of kids matching pajamas for Christmas morning.

Usually, I select a new style for my Christmas morning pjs.  This year, I selected two Love Notions patterns:  Prisma Dress & Moto Maxx .  The Moto Maxx pj version is not new in our house, I have made a few of them using that pattern but they are now all too small for my middle child.

First up is the Prisma dress* , I made no modifications to the pattern.  I selected the scoop version, ¾ sleeve length and went up one size.  I was looking for a more loose style to ensure sleeping comfort.  If you have a closer look at the picture you can see another family holiday tradition.  My husband and I are having quite some fun with that guy.  As you can see, he gets in trouble almost every night!

Secondly, I made the Moto Maxx for the boys pjs.  No modification to the pattern. I skipped the pockets making it a quick sew!  I usually make the short sleeve version but I received a special request from this guy.

My princess’ AG doll also get her own version of this year Christmas pjs.  I used the latest pattern Doll LDT that was released during this Handmade Holiday Tour.

In conclusion, I wanted to share with you a new Holiday Tradition.  In November, I tested an advent calendar for Rebecca Page. I had so much fun with the kids creating each ornaments.  You can get your free pattern here* (for a limited time).  Go grab it and create your own Holiday tradition.

Love Notions - Sloane

Welcome everyone that is following the Love Notions Sloane blog tour!

Have you been following along? I really love seeing everyone's version of the same pattern. It is such a great inspiration.

The Sloane girls is the latest pattern in the Love Notions collection. During testing, I made two versions of the Girls Sloane Sweater* View B which is a boxy fit with hem band that hits at high hip and regular neckline. 

If you have been following me for a while you know that I love sewing for my princess, she has a full closet of handmade clothes. My princess is an hockey player who spends on average 5 hours/week at the rink.  She wears a lot of athletic clothing.  For the blog tour, I wanted to make her an athletic version of the Sloane.  

For this version, I used the View A, which is more fitted with curved hem.   I love the hood option!

A little bit about the fabric choice. She, yep ''SHE'', selected a Double Brushed Poly from our local fabric store (Fabricland).  It is super soft and so cozy.

Sewing is a hobby for me, I have not invested in a coverstitch yet. This did not stop me to investigate them, maybe one day when I cannot pass on a great sale!    

In the meantime, I found a decorative stitch on my sewing machine that somewhat looks like the coverstitch chain.  I used that stitch for the hem and the hood to reach an athletic style.  The stitch name is ''Joining stitch''. Time to take your manual out and see what you have available.

During the Love Notions Bash, a few hacks were published on the Love Notions blog*.  One of them was thumbhole cuffs for the Sloane.  I included that option on my version. You can find the instructions and pattern for the girls and ladies here*.  

Now, I want to make a version for me. The Sloane ladies version has been available for a while but just got updated with the hood option.  I love patterns that offer a lot of options, which is the case of the Sloane sweater.

Est -ce que vous avez suivi la tournée des blogs?  J'adore voir toutes les versions du même patron, c'est tellement inspirant. 

Le Sloane pour filles est le dernier patron de la collection de Love Notions. Pendant la période de test, j'ai fais deux version B du patron Girls Sloane Sweater* .  Cette version est plus boxy avec une bande au niveau des hanches. 

Si c'est pas votre première visite sur le blog, vous savez déjà que ma princesse à un garde-robe plein de vêtements fait spécialement pour elle. 

Cette princesse joue au hockey, elle passe plus de 5 heures par semaine à la patinoire.  Pour la tournée des blogs, je voulais lui faire une version plus athlétique.

Pour ce chandail, j'ai utilisé la version A qui est plus ajusté et un ourlet en courbe.  J'ai aussi utilisé l'option du capuchon. 

Je couds pour le plaisir, donc j'ai pas encore investi dans une coversitch. J'ai décourvert un point de couture qui ressemble un peu au point en chaine de la coverstitch. Si jamais vous décidez de sortir votre manuel pour faire assemblant comme moi, le point s'appelle ''Joining stitch''.  

En terminant, une autre option que j'ai ajouté est le trou pour le pouce au poignet. Cette option n'est pas inclus avec le patron mais les instructions et le patron est disponible sur le Love Notions blog ici*.

Mouse House Creations - Dress Up Hoodie

I love being creative and making costumes for my kids. It is so much fun.

This year again, I had the chance to test a few patterns that I used for my kids school costumes. Our school has very strict rules on what the kids are allowed to wear for the school Halloween activities (including no mask). Those patterns were perfect to meet all those rules and ensure that my kids had a lot of fun with their costume.

First up, is the brand new pattern from Mouse House Creations. The Dress Up hoodie* is full of options to create the perfect raglan tee.

Bunny, Unicorn, Horse, Dinosaur, Shark, Mouse, Cat, Deer, Butterfly, Bat, Owl/Bird or let your creativity go wild.

During testing, I made two versions of the pattern. 

We tried the bat (bat wing cape and ear), my son was so excited by this hoodie that he could not stand still to take some pictures. He needed to try-out the bat wing.  He needed to know how fast he needs to run to get the cape to fly!

My second version was inspired by the yellow Angry Birds. I used a feather boa from the dollar store Halloween section for the head and tail of my bird.

There is a few options available in the PDF world to create the perfect Dress-up hoodie.  What I really like about the Mouse House Creations is the hood and sleeve. They have been created with the accents in mind. The pattern has two set of sleeve and hood depending on the options (accent) selected for your creation.

Another thing you should consider is the sizing, my kids are more on the skinny side and I haven’t made any modifications to this pattern.

There is some PDF pattern brands that I stay away from because they are designed for larger kids.  It requires too many modifications to accommodate my kids shapes.

I will be using this pattern* again for just a plain raglan but also for Christmas, I really want to try the Reindeer version!

J'adore l'automne surtout pour la fête d'halloween.  Cette année encore, j'ai eu la chance de testé de nouveaux patrons pour mes costumes d'halloween.

Pour débuté, j'ai testé le dernier patron de Mouse House Creations Dress Up Hoodie*.  Ce patron n'est pas juste un chandail mais aussi le parfait costume pour tout les jours.

Durant la période de test, j'ai fais deux chandails.  Une chauve-souris avec les ailes et un oiseau inspiré des Angry Birds.

Le patron inclus plusieurs options : Lapin, chat, souris, chauve-souris, unicorne, cheval, dragon et hibou.  Mais le plus important vous avez le parfait gabarit pour laisser votre imagination s'épanouir!  

J'ai beaucoup aimé la construction du capuchon et des manches. Le patron est conçu pour l'ajout de toute sorte d'éléments. 

Il y a plusieurs options de chandail de ce type sur le marché.  Un autre élément important est le tableau des grandeurs.  Mes garçons sont plutôt mince et je n'ai pas fait de modifications pour ajuster le patron.  

Si vous êtes à la recherche d'idées, j'ai quelques projets sur ce blog : Ailes de dragon, Ailes d'oiseau, Hibou et Sorcière.

Je planifie utiliser ce patron* au moins une autre fois, je veux essayer le chevreuil et probablement la souris pour notre prochain voyage à Disney !

Joyeuse Halloween!

Titchy Threads - Rushbrook Dress and Top

It has been a very long time I had not pattern tested for Titchy Threads.  It was definitely worth the wait. Warning this post is loaded with pictures!

The new pattern, Rushbrook, is a floaty sleeveless top or dress for girls ranging from 12 months to 12 years.  

For my two versions, I went with a simple silhouette with flutter sleeves. On the white version, I used contrasting fabric for the placket, bias bounding and hem. You could also add more details with a placket ruffle, gathered pockets and hem ruffle.  

I really like the racerback style on a woven top.  The other nice features of this pattern are the French seam and bias bound which give a clean finish to this garment.

Titchy Threads pattern instructions are very detailed and I love the professional finish.   The pattern includes the layer printing function and each size has its own style and colour to make it easier for you if you print in black in white.

We really love the end results with this pattern and it will definitely be at the top of my to do list for next summer.

Il y déjà plus d'un an que j'ai testé pour Titchy Threads.  Le Rushbrook est un adorable patron pour les filles de 12 mois à 12 ans.  Avertissement cette publication est remplis de photos!

J'ai fait deux versions durant la période de teste.  Les deux chemises démontrent la silhouette et les petites manches flottantes. La version fleurie aussi inclus un tissu contrastant pour la patte à bouton, le biais et la doublure du ourlet. Vous pouvez aussi ajouté un volant à la patte et ourlet. Il y aussi une poche pour la version robe.

Les deux versions sont fait avec un tissu tissé. J'aime vraiment le dos de cette chemise. Les autres caractéristiques de ce patron sont les coutures françaises et l'utilisation de biais pour l'ouverture des manches. Ces deux caractéristiques permettent d'obtenir une belle finition.

Les instructions de Titchy Threads sont toujours bien détaillés et complètes.  De plus, vous pouvez imprimer seulement la grandeur que vous avez besoin.  Si jamais vous avez besoin de toute les grandeurs, Titchy Threads utilise une différente couleur et style de ligne pour chaque grandeur. 

En terminant, nous adorons les deux chemises et ce patron va être sur la liste pour l'été prochaine.
