Back to school with Rebecca Page and Love Notions

 

What is your favorite back to school patterns? I have a few for the boys, including the Love Notions – Vanguard cargo joggers! My son loves the elasticated cuffs, makes it easy to put in his winter boots. 

I’m a huge fan of the details at the knee. I also made a pair without the details, which require a modification to the pattern. 

I completed a faux fly but skipped the cargo pockets for this version. I have made a few adjustments to ensure the best fit for my son. I started with a size 10 and extended the length of the pants, adjusted the details at the knee for the new length and extended the raised.

The Vanguard cargo joggers is part of a kit, which includes a versatile tee that can be color blocked. You can find some projects I completed with this pattern at the following links:

A little bit about the fabric for the joggers. The pattern is meant for heavy-weight woven or stable knits.  I used something a little different and I’m very happy with the result. I used a lightweight stretch woven from Discovery fabric. The fabric name is black CoolVent (74% Nylon, 26% Spandex).

 I completed the outfit with the Houston Henley from Rebecca Page. This was my first attempt at the T-shirt. I'm usually not a big fan of placket on the front, it never turns out very well for me.  I decided to give it a try because of the detailed instructions and the video to follow along.

I like the stylish crew neck on this pattern. I still need some practice with the front button-up placket but this is probably one of my best attempt. 

I made a size 12 without adjustment to the sizing. I used a medium-weight knit fabric.

Five Oceans Fabric Round 13 Part 1- Love Notions

 

I received some custom print from Five Oceans fabric latest preorder.  The theme for round 13 is Mario!  The Switch is quite busy in our family, making this round quite exiting!

   

  J'ai reçu un métre de la nouvelle prévente de Five Oceans fabric qui a pour thème Mario.  Les enfants adorent Luigi Mansion, nous avons toujours pas terminé le jeu par contre!

The fabric base is a Cotton Spandex French Terry (280-300 gsm, 95% cotton 5% spandex). The name of the print is Ghosties! Any fan of Lugi Mansion?  The colors of this print are amazing.  

    La base du tissu est en cotton français, mélange cotton et spandex.  Les couleurs de ce tissu sont magnifiques et vibrantes.

For this project I used the Love Notions Vanguard kit.  I did the pants a few times and decided to try the top.  It has a few fun options.

    Pour ce projet, j'ai utilié le patron de Love Notions - Vanguard.  J'avais fait le pantalon quelques fois mais jamais le chandail.  Le patron rencontrait toutes les demandes de mon grand! 

I modified the sleeve a little I used version B but connect the bottom two pieces.

No other modification, I used a straight size 10.

    J'ai modifié les manches quelque peu. J'ai fait un deux pièces au lien de 3. Autrement pas de modification à la gradeur 10.

Halloween 2021

 

I'm  super exited that we are back to a ''normal'' life and the kids will be able to go out and enjoy the night.  This year, I created costumes that the kids can be comfortable to wear at school for the day.

First up, Free Guy this is the main character from Ryan Reynolds latest movie. We really loved the movie and this pre-teen loved video games.  I used Love Notions Cargo pants pattern and swiss army shirt from pattern niche. 

Costume number 2, is a Ghostbuster jumpsuit.  I created the jumpsuit from a brand new pattern from Apostrophe patterns .  This was the bunny costume which is a customized pattern, not typical patterns based on standard sizes.  Instead, the pattern is custom-drawn based on your measurement specifications, fabric choice and sewing preferences (i.e seam allowance).  This is a very interesting new way to look at pattern.  This was available free until 31 Oct. This version was missing a little bit of ease for woven fabric. 

I also included a Cricut designs.  The collar was drafted using the swiss army shirt collar.

The last costume was for my teenager, I created a Waldo outfit.  The hat was created using the Rebecca Page winter hat (size 10).  The tee is the freebie Green Tee* from Greenstyle (size D).

Back to school - Retour en classe

Hello, We are slowly going back to normal in my corner of the world.  I have high hope we will stay away from the roller coaster of last year. The kids were back and forth between the in-class and virtual learning. 

 I started my back to school sewing with a pair of cargo pants from Love Notions.  I bought the Vanguard Kit when it came out in 2018! I made the t-shirt a few times but this was my first time trying the cargo pants.  

 

I really like the design features. The side pocket is designed in an angle and the cute fold at the knee.

The outfit also features the Jalie Nico raglan. This T-shirt pattern is a staple for my boys.  I used this pattern for swim rash guard and under layer shirt for hockey.   

I love the size chart from the Jalie pattern collection (kids to adult). The fabric for the raglan t-shirt is from Discovery Fabric.  It is a technical jersey fabric (polyester/spandex) and a great option for hot summer days. The fabric is moisture-wicking and quick drying.  

 

Journal notes:

Modification to the cargo pants, Vanguard kit pattern: I used a size 8 and modified the crotch length to match size 10.  I extended the length and moved the knee details.

Cargo pants: cotton poplin, camouflage black from l'oiseau Fabrics.

T-shirt: Tech Jersey, Rust from Discovery Fabric (180 gsm, 4-way stretch 65% side-to-side, 35% lengthwise)

Rebecca Page - Comfy Town Blog Tour

Welcome to Rebecca Page Comfy Town blog tour.  

I am very excited by this blog tour theme. In my corner of the world the snow has already covered the grass and the kids already built their first snowman. Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean we cannot stay cute and cozy.

I had so many ideas for this blog tour, I decided to settle on a few key pieces for my princess! 

The first item is the Child’s Pippa Pants* pattern.  This super comfy stretch pants was perfect for showing off this cute knit print. This organic relief knit jacquard (Polar Bears, taupe) is a little heavier than your regular cotton knit.  Perfect for those cooler days.

I love how quick sew those pants are, no side seams.  This is my third pairs of Pippa pants for my princess.  This time, I went up one size to get the comfy style I was looking for but I needed to do something with the waist band which was too big on her.  This pattern doesn’t call for an elastic but I inserted a 1.5” wide knit elastic in the waist band to adjust that. 

My second key piece is the Cora Cocoon cardigan* in a French Terry.  Another quick sew.  The Cora Cocoon is a fun cardigan to keep you warm and cozy during those cooler days.  I used French Terry for the sleeve as well, making them slimmer.  Keep in mind that French Terry has less stretch than jersey knit or ribbing.  You can find my cozy ladies version here.

The final piece of this outfit is the classic tee for girls from Love Notions*.  I was originally hoping to use the new Strappy cami but she's still too small. Hint Hint we need a girls version!

I used a modal jersey knit which drapes beautifully.  Modal fibers create a silky soft fabric making it the perfect choice for Comfy Town outfit.  All fabrics used in this project came from L'Oiseau Fabric.

This Pippa Pants and Cora Cocoon patterns are available in child, dolls and ladies version.  This project is perfect for beginner sewistas, I have another pair of Pippa Pants cut in the same fabric for me and I made a little surprise for my Princess that she has not seen yet, psst don't tell her!

Love Notions - Summer Lace Tour



Hello, I'm back at blogging with the Lace Love Notions Summer Blog Tour. When Kelly put forward the idea for Lace projects, I wanted in.  I have so many projects I wanted to try: Cartwheel top with lace back for my daughter, Sloane with lace accent, "Sexy" Luna Loungewear or Lotus Blossom blouse!   There is no limit to your imagination, I settled on a lace top with flutter sleeves.

 

My inspiration came from Banana Republic after some windows shopping.  Joking here, I don't have time for windows shopping anymore, I'm more a Pinterest and internet browsing kind of shopper. 😉  

 

Below is my inspiration for this project, which I reproduced using the Forte view C - classic tee with scoop neck and bell sleeves.

 

 

 

What do you think?  I created a great alternative to a plain black blouse-very Stylish!  This was my first time trying the Forte and I think it is a very flattering shirt.  I did not realize how many options to mix and match were available with this pattern (four top views, two dress views and six sleeve options). Definitely something to try again.

I really like the inspiration top. To reach the same style I made a few changes.  I cut one size bigger, the main reason was that I wanted a relaxed fit with a little bit more room thorough the chest.  I cut my sleeve a little shorter, three-quarter length sleeves, I was looking for a summery style.

 



The inspiration came with an interior cami for extra coverage.  No problem, Love Notions has the perfect pattern for that - Luna Loungewear. I had some left over yoga fabric from another project that I used for the cami making it super comfortable.

The last modification I made was how I finished the neckline.  I used the same technic than the Luna pattern.  I encased the edge in the neckline band to reach a clean finish without exposed seams.

 

This beautiful fabric came from L'Oiseau fabric and was perfect for this project. It has the perfect stretch.  My last step for this project is to take this flattering shirt to a night out!

The Fabric Geeks - The Mix #1 (part 2)

So it turned out to be a busy January, this is part 2 of The Mix #1.  

I have three more prints to show you from the current preorder from The Fabric Geek.

I am a huge fan of the following pattern, the Rowan Tee from Titchy Threads.  I used the ''Math Nerd'' as the main fabric for this Tee and the ''Monochrome Doodle'' for the shoulder accents.

Ma machine à coudre à été très occupé en janvier. Voici la deuxième partie de la collection ''The Mix #1'' de la précommande de The Fabric Geeks.

J'ai commencé avec un de mes patrons préférés, le Rowan Tee de Titchy Threads avec le tissu ''Math Nerd'' avec le ''Monochrome Doodle'' sur les manches.

This little guy has been growing so he got lucky, I got good results with the Explorer Raglan from MBJM, so I decided to try another pattern from her collection. So I tried the Cottesloe Cowl. I used the same size than the Explorer Raglan but it turned a little big on my model. I love the colors of the ''Extinction'' fabric and the little round pockets.

Mon grand garçon grandit rapidement alors il a eu droit à un autre chandail.  J'ai obtenu un bon résultat avec le premier patron que j'ai essayé de MBJM  alors j'en ai essayé un autre. Cette fois-ci j'ai fait l'essai du Cottesloe cowl. Le chandail est un peu grand pour lui, pourtant j'ai utilisé la même grandeur que l'explorer raglan.  C'est quand même une belle réussite, j'adore les couleurs du tissu et les petites poches rondes.

The last print I had the chance to try-out is the ''Sweet things''.  I thought it would be fun to use that print on some gym clothing. So I used the Agility Tank from 5 out of 4 patterns* and the girls stride from Greenstyle Creations*.

Pour le dernier tissu, je me suis amusé avec le thème.  Des sucreries pour une ensemble de gym.  J'ai utilisé le patron Agility Tank de 5 out of 4 patterns* et girls stride de Greenstyle Creations*. 

In addition to the strike off from The Fabric Geeks, I tested the revised version of the Love Notions* Trendy Tunic.  I used the ''Sweet things'' for the details of the tunic.

En terminant, j'ai testé la version révisée du patron Trendy Tunic de Love Notions*. Le ''Sweet things'' était parfait pour ce projet.
