5OO4 - Wilbur Sweatpants

My kids spend a lot of time in sweatpants, they don't like jeans!  I decided to try the Wilbur Sweatpants from 5 out of 4 patterns.  I like the shape of the leg, not too wide and not too skinny.  It was just perfect for my teenager skinny legs.

The pattern features a few options:

- Short and pants

- Hemmed and cuffed or encased elastic

- Waistband drawstring

- Side seam pockets

My version features the cuffed and side seam pockets. I see more of those in the future!

Pattern : Wibur Sweatpants *

Skill Level: Beginner

Designed for Knit fabric with minimal stretch I used a French Terry with 80% cotton, 20% poly (310gsm) from 5 Oceans Fabric

5OO4 - K2 Fleece pullover

The Kids' K2 fleece pullover is the latest pattern I tried from 5 out of 4 patterns.  I loved the relaxed fit of the quarter-zip pullover.  It was perfect for our ski trip I was looking for something for laying over their under layer.

The pattern includes a few options:

- Solid and contract versions (I used the solid version)
- On seam invisible zip pockets (not used in these version)
- Treasure pocket hidden in top of contrast panel (not used in these version)

This was a really quick sew with great results.  I used Polartec Windpro Discovery fabric in the version below. The fabric is a water-repellent fleece with wind resistance.

Five Oceans Fabric Round 13 Part 2 - Sofiona Designs

I adventured to try a new pattern company from northern Canada.  Sofiona Designs specialized in girls and miss patterns.  I love their commitment to donate a portion of all their sales to A21. From their newsletter:
A21 is a non-profit organization that exists to free people from slavery and educate others in efforts to disrupt the demand for modern day slaves around the world.

I tried the Miss bonefire hoodie  which is designed with a relaxed fit and separate front panel piece.  The front panel piece comes in cup sizes (A-D).   Another interesting feature is the slight hi-lo hemline.

Multiple options are available :

Hood or simple neckband

Solid sleeve cuffs or thumb hole

Optional front pocket

I made a few modifications, including reduce the length by 1.5 inch and the sleeve by the same amount.

A little bit about the fabric, I love the bamboo spandex French terry! It's light but not slippery and has a great body.

The Mario Odyssey is a preorder available until 14 feb. The fabric details are 95% bamboo fiber 5% spandex with a 280-300gsm weight.

The beige is currently in stock ''Sew you wild oat'' bamboo/cotton French terry. The fabric details are 66% rayon from bamboo, 28% cotton and 6% spandex.  This one is Oeko Tex 100 certified.

For all the gamers, below are the prints currently available for preorder.

Happy sewing,

Five Oceans Fabric Round 13 Part 1- Love Notions

I received some custom print from Five Oceans fabric latest preorder.  The theme for round 13 is Mario!  The Switch is quite busy in our family, making this round quite exiting!

The fabric base is a Cotton Spandex French Terry (280-300 gsm, 95% cotton 5% spandex). The name of the print is Ghosties! Any fan of Lugi Mansion?  The colors of this print are amazing.

For this project I used the Love Notions Vanguard kit.  I did the pants a few times and decided to try the top.  It has a few fun options.

I modified the sleeve a little I used version B but connect the bottom two pieces.
No other modification, I used a straight size 10.

Below is the details of R13, lots of fun prints.

5OO4 Pajama party - Susie Lounge hack Instructions

A few months ago, I saw an ad for red plaid bamboo pajama!  I really like the look of the tulip short and decided to reproduce them for my teenager.

I started with the Susie lounge set pattern* from 5outof4 patterns.  I used the 4'' shorts pattern pieces (front and back) to draft my pattern pieces.

The tulip short from  This Is J features an overlap from the back to the front with a curve opening on the side.

To achieve the tulip design, I started with the following diagram as my base to create my new pattern pieces.

The front piece was redrafted to be 1'5 inch wider at the top edge with a curve side. I used my French curve ruler.

I recommend to mark the original side seam on your pattern piece, we will use the mark later on in step 2.  That is the little black triangle you see on my pattern piece.  You can also see below my horizontal line which I marked where I wanted to finish the overlapping. I did not want to show too much of the hip!

I used the same image above to draft the back piece.  I extended the top edge by a full 3 inches of the pattern piece in order to recreate the overlaps. I used my cutting board to help you with the dimension.

For the side, I extended my horizontal line by 2 inches and drafted my curve using my French curve ruler. Don't forget to mark your original side seam at the top (black triangle)!

I also used the waistband from the original pattern without changes.  I had to change a little bit the construction of the short to achieve the tulip style.  I started by the hem of the short. With my iron, I folded 3/8'' hem towards the back on each front and back pieces.

This was a great time to use my coverstitch. Which had been collecting dust for a little while!   I like the stretch of the stitch, don't have a coverstitch no problem.  You can do a stretch stitch instead, you can probably do a regular stitch as well.  My second step was to overlap the back piece to the front using the marking.  This is the time to use your little black triangles, and overlap them to get your original side seam.  In my image below one of the pin is over the top marking and another on the horizontal line.

The third step is the sew the inner legs.

The forth steps is sewing the crotch and continue with the steps in the instructions for the waistband.

The end results is fabulous and I may have more requests from my teenager.  She has been wearing my trial version on a regular basis.

Happy Sewing,

Nadine

5OO4 Pajama Party

Plaid is back!  Their uniform for the cozy season are here.  I have a holidays tradition, I make the kids new Christmas pjs every year.  This year, I took advantage of the 5004 pajama party to try new patterns.

The Susie lounge set* is available in women and kids sizes.  I decided to try both! The pattern is designed for knit fabric and offers a few options.

My first version I used the Dolman top without sleeve for a cozy top and I hacked the bottom short.  Please visit this post for the instructions of the tulip short hack.

I used the kids version for the bottom of my son's pajama.  I like the style of the pants and it was the perfect width for my skinny pre-teen.

Both of them didn't want to take off their new pajama after the quick pictures.  They will be able to wear them on Christmas Eve with the others (niece and nephew).  I make a minimum of 5 pajamas every year.  This year I have cut a few more, including the gown included in this pattern for my mom. Hopefully, I will have each of them completed in the next two weeks.
