Love Notions - Terra

Good day,

I'm back with the latest pattern from Love Notions* the Terra* Tunic.   This tunic is not too fitted and features side vents.  This casual tunic is available in ladies sizes XS-XXXL. 

During the testing period I completed 3 versions of the tunic.  I was assigned the V-Neck option but I really wanted to try the V-Neck hooded version as well. I was not disappointed!

This pattern has 6 neckline options:

• V-Neck
• Scoop
• Funnel
• Asymmetrical Button Collar
• Boatneck, and
• V-Neck Hood 

The options don't stop there, this pattern also has 4 sleeve lengths (short, elbow, 3/4 & long) with optional welt pockets and elbow patches. I think this makes this pattern the most versatile I tested so far. 

I don't usually make V-Neckline because I find them difficult to reach perfection. I was really surprised how easy this one was done and I got nice result not only once but twice! 

If you have been reading me for a while, you know that I'm a big fan of bamboo. Maybe I should say "addicted"!  The two V-neck versions are made of bamboo knit and the hooded version is French Terry bamboo, so comfy. 

My casual wardrobe has been filled with Love Notions creations lately.  I have a few Terra* and Whistler.  I will definitely use this pattern again and make a few business attire versions.

je suis de retour avec le dernier patron de Love Notions* - la tunic Terra*.  Cette tunic n'est pas trop ajusté pour un look décontracté. Terra est disponible en taille très petite à très extra large (buste 33'' à 49.5'').

J'ai complété 3 versions durant la période de test. J'avais pour objectif de complété la version avec le col en V et je me suis aventuré à faire l'essai de la version avec capuchon !

Ce patron inclus 6 versions de col :

• Col en V ;
• Col échancré (rond) ;
• Capuchon ;
• Col montant ;
• Col asymétrique avec boutons; et
• Encolure bateau.

Les options disponibles avec ce patron ne s'arrête pas seulement au col.  Vous avez aussi 4 options pour les manches (courtes, au coude, 3/4 et longues), ainsi que des poches et patches aux coudes.  Je crois que c'est le premier patron que je teste avec autant de possibilités.

Normalement, je ne choisi pas l'option de col en V.  Mais ce patron ma surpris, le résultat du col était vraiment bien et facile à réaliser.

Du côté tissu, j'ai utilisé pour les col en V un tricot de bamboo. La version capuchon est en Terry Français de bamboo.   Je planifie utiliser ce patron pour me faire des chandails pour le travail, il me reste plusieurs options à essayer!

Mother Grimms Designs - Adult Coif Hood

Happy New Year everyone!

2016 was an amazing sewing year, filled with many projects. Probably my most productive year yet! My daughter has an overflowing wardrobe from testing projects and I got the chance to make themed clothes for our Disney trip. I started this blog back in March as a mean to show you all those sewing projects, since then I have blogged about over 40 projects. Which probably represents only half of the projects I made over the year. I don’t believe 2017 will be as busy.

To start 2017, I have a quick and fun project to show you. The Coif hood pattern from the Mother Grimms Designs. This testing was for me but my daughter decided to wear it as soon she saw it. She even took it to her hockey tournament over the weekend. 

This headwear took me less than 2 hours from printing the pattern to finished product. This version features the basic two seam coif and the Puppy drop ears add on option.  

  

This pattern is full of fun options to create any creature. Here are some of the options included in the instructions:

• Rabbit
• Puppy
• Dragon
• Horse
• Elf 
• Knights crest and visor

Pattern details:

• Head circumference range from about 21” to 29” with 5 sizes options to get the best fit; 
• 4 basic Coif styles – one seam, two seam, short and long pixie points;
• All coifs have the option of a tighter face fitting or a looser fit which will give less face coverage;
• Optional band around the face opening;
• Can be lined and Reversible (if using the same style for the lining); and 
• Optional bun hole.

I would consider this pattern as “Easy”. 

This pattern is also available in Kids sizes (0 to 15yrs).

I will use this pattern again, this was so fun to make. I like that you don’t need to wear scarf with this headwear. I’m already planning to make the kids Elf pixie coif for next Christmas.

Bonne année tout le monde

Premièrement, j’aimerai débuter avec une rétrospective sur l’année dernière qui fut extraordinaire au niveau de mon passe-temps préféré – la couture.   J’ai eu la chance de tester plus d’une trentaine de patrons et de créer une collection de vêtements pour notre première visite à Disney.  Depuis la première publication sur ce blogue, je vous ai présenté plus de 40 projets de couture ce qui représente seulement la moitié des projets que j’ai complétés au cours de l’année.  Je ne prévois pas compléter autant de projets cette année!

 

Pour débuter 2017, je vous présente un projet rapide et amusant. Ce projet de cagoule ou passe-montagne est le dernier patron de Mother Grimms Designs.  Ce projet était pour moi, mais aussitôt que ma fille la vue j’avais déjà perdu ma cause!

 

J’ai complété le passe-montagne en moins de 2 heures, incluant l’impression du patron.  Je considère que le niveau de difficulté de ce patron est « facile ».

 

La version que j’ai testé était la version de base à deux coutures avec les options des oreilles de chien et la bande autour du visage.  Ce patron inclus plusieurs options pour créer une panoplie de créatures tel que :  Lapin, chien, dragon, cheval, lutin et chevalier (visière et arche).

 

Maintenant les détails du patron :

 

Le patron inclus 5 tailles pour une circonférence de tête variant de 21’’ à 29’’

• - 4 styles de base pour le passe-montagne (une couture, deux coutures, court et long style « Pixie »;
• - Chaque style de base à deux options d’ajustement au niveau du visage;
• - Option d’une bande autour du visage;
• - Le passe-montagne peut être doublé et réversible (si le même style est utilisé pour la doublure); et
• - Option de trou de chignon.

Ce patron est aussi disponible en version enfants dans les tailles de 0 à 15 ans.

 

Je me suis vraiment amusé avec ce patron que je vais surement utiliser au moins une autre fois.  Je planifie déjà de faire des lutins avec le style « Pixie » pour la période des fêtes.

Tie Dye Diva - New York Minute Dress

I’m back with the latest pattern from Tie Dye Diva* – New York Minute Dress. 

This pattern was originally designed for girls but it also includes instructions to make an easy modification for the boys.  I love pattern that you can use and re-use. 

During that testing, I made two versions making my kids quite happy!

The New York Minute Dress features multiple options:

·         Short and long sleeves

·         Straight or ribbed hem

·         Ribbed or facing neckline

·         Hood

·         Side pockets or kangaroo pocket

The pattern is available in size 12 months to 9/10 yrs. For the first time, TDD* included size layers to this pattern.  This means you can print only the size you require.  I always use that feature when printing my patterns. 

During testing, I completed the dress version with the following features:  Short sleeves, ribbed hem with side pockets.  This outfit is completed with the TDD Sterling Leggings*.  My princess have been asking for black legging for weeks!

My boy version is a simple modification of the pattern, don’t worry instructions are included! This version features: long sleeves, straight hem and hood.  This one is a big hit, my son wore that sweater 4 days in row!  I rarely sew for him, he told me it was very comfortable and warm.  I love a 5 years old mind, they always have a very good reason.   

I’m very happy with the results.  I used polyester sweater knit, I usually stay away from polyester but I really like the look of that fabric.  I guess it is an experiment.  My fabric came from my local Fabricland.

This was my last pattern testing of the year! In the New Year, I’m planning to reduce my participation in pattern testing.  The kid’s schedules are too crazy (11 ice times per week)! I don’t have the time to devote to the testing process and provide meaningful feedback.  I won’t completely stop, just reduce the number of testing.

Je suis de retour avec le dernier patron de Tie Dye Diva*,  la robe New York Minute.

Ce patron est dessiné pour les filles mais il fait très bien pour les garçons aussi!  J'adore les patrons qui peuvent être utilisés autant pour les garçons que pour les filles.

Durant la période de test, j'ai complété deux versions du patron.  La version robe et la version chandail pour garçon.  Le patron New York Minute* inclus plusieurs options :

• Manches courtes ou longues;
• Finition avec bande ou sans bande;
• Col avec band ou sans bande;
• Capuchon; et
• Poches sur les côtés ou kangourou.

Le patron est disponible dans les tailles 12 mois à 9/10 ans.  Pour la toute première fois, TDD est disponible avec la fonction d'impression individuelle.  J'adore cette fonction, j'imprime toujours juste une grandeur à la fois!

Pour ma version fille, j'ai utilisé les options suivantes : Bande au col, manches courte, poches sur le côté et bande de finition au bas.  J'ai aussi fait des pantalons noir de TDD  Sterling Leggings pour terminer l'ensemble.

La version garçons est une simple modification du patron, les instructions sont inclus pas de stress ici! Cette version inclus les options suivantes : Capuchon et manches longues.  Cette version est une belle réussite mon bébé la porté 4 jours de suite!  Il m'a dit que le chandail est vraiment confortable et chaud.  J'adore les enfants de cinq ans, ils ont toujours une très bonne raison derrière leur actions.  

Le tissu pour les deux vêtements était en polyester, habituellement je reste loin du polyester mais bon j'ai fais une exception car j'aimais le style! Le tissu provient de Fabricland.

Ceci est mon dernier projet de test pour l'année!  Pour la nouvelle année, je vais réduire ma participation au niveau des périodes de test de nouveau patron.  L'horaire des enfants est un peu trop exigeante cette année.  Avec 11 périodes d'une heure sur la glace par semaine, j'ai peu de temps a consacré à la couture.  Je vais continuer a participer mais dans un nombre limité.

Sew Straigth & Gather - Andromeda

Good day,

I was quite busy last week, I was also part of the testing for the new patterns from Sew Straight & Gather.  The Andromeda Top & dress is available in ladies and girls sizing.

The Andromeda is a draped sleeves top or dress. This is a very easy & quick sew with style.    

 Sew Straight & Gather provided detailed instructions with a full clickable page navigation and URL links to outside resources. I believe one of the best on the PDF pattern market.

The pattern is currently on sale for $5Cdn through the black Friday/thanksgiving weekend.  The full Sew Straight & Gather collection is also on sale.  If you need inspiration you can look back at some of the other patterns I tested: The Café Romper, Legends & Uptown/Downtown Dress. 

Finally, I used bamboo knit for the ladies version and thin sweater knit for the girls’ version.  When I have some free time, I may try another version with the Uptown/Downtown cowl for a more fall/winter style.

j'ai été très occupé la semaine dernière, j'ai testé les deux dernier patrons de Sew Straigth & Gather.

L'Andromeda est disponible en version pour filles et dames. Ce patron est facile et rapide. J'ai testé la version chandail avec bande, mais vous pouvez aussi faire la version robe avec ou sans l'élastique à la taille.

Comme tous les patrons de Sew Straight & Gather, les instructions sont détaillé et comprend nombreux lien pour facilité la lecture.

Les deux patrons sont présentement disponible pour 5$ durant la vente du vendredi fou.  Tous les patrons de Sew Straight & Gather sont en vente.  C'est le temps d'en profiter!  Besoin d'inspiration voici mes projets précédents : Café, Uptown/Downtown & Legends.

J'ai l'intention d'en faire une autre version avec le col du patron Uptown/Downtown pour un style plus automnal.  J'ai utilisé du tricot de bamboo pour ma version dame et j'adore la douceur du tissu. Une autre belle réussite!

Love Notions - Whistler

Good day,

I had the chance to test the latest pattern from Love Notions Whistler Sweater and Hoodie (affiliate link).  I really love the style of this sweater.   I was assigned the banded version with hood, but I will need to try the shawl collar version with the curved hem. I really love what the other testers did.  

Both of my versions feature the flat middle portion since I had a lot of stretch in my fabric. 

This pattern comes with so many options to please everyone:

-          Shawl collar or hoodie

-          Gathered or flat middle portion

-          Banded bottom
-      Curved or straight hem

-          Shirt and tunic lengths

This pattern is rated as intermediate, because of the front middle portion.  A short instruction video is available with the instructions for the most technical step.  If you are not confident in your sewing ability, you should start with a muslin (cheap fabric).  You should select your size based on your bust measurements.  The sweater has been designed for loose fitting, so it could fit comfortable over a base layer (t-shirt).

Finally, I really love my fabric choice French Terry bamboo knit from C&M textile.  It is so soft and comfortable, I think I will be wearing those two sweaters on a regular basis.  If you have not tried bamboo knit you should.

J’ai eu la chance de tester le dernier patron de Love Notions, le chandail Whistler (lien affilié).  J’adore le style de ce chandail.   

Ce patron comprend plusieurs options pour plaire à chacune d'entre-vous:

• Chandail à capuchon ou col ;
• Partie centrale plat ou avec plis ;
• Bande ou ourlet fini en arrondi ; et
• Longueur tunique ou chandail.

Ce patron est de niveau intermédiaire, en raison de la partie centrale et les poches. Mais pas besoin d'avoir peur, il y a un court vidéo. Le lien est disponible dans les instructions. Si vous avez peur de vous lancez, débutez avec un tissu a prix modique pour confirmer la grandeur et les sections plus difficile. 

Pour vous aider, vous devez choisir la grandeur basée sur le buste.  Ce chandail n'est pas moulant, il est fait pour être confortable par dessus un T-Shirt.

Maintenant, le tissu!  Je suis complètement en amour avec le cotton français avec bamboo.   C'est tellement confortable et doux.  J'ai porté mes deux chandails toute la fin de semaine! 

En terminant, j'ai reçu une compensation pour tester ce patron et la promotion.  Mais ceci ne change pas mon opinion.  Je suis très satisfaite du résultat et je vais probablement en faire un autre avec le col.

Filles à Maman - One Romper

Good day everyone,

A few weeks ago, I had the chance to test the latest pattern from Les Filles à Maman “One Romper”.   It was not my first time testing for Melanie.  I tested her Petit Oiseau shirt and Jolie skirt (affiliate links). I was very excited this time to do something for my big boy. 

The One Romper is available in sizes 1 to 14 and features short sleeves.  The long sleeves option will be available for free on the FAM website shortly.

Main features are:

·         Long or short legs;

·         Round or V-neck;

·         Shoulder closer; and,

·         Patch and in-seam side pocket.

My version of the long legs and round neck is featuring L’Oiseau Fabric Monsters Attack.

During testing, I have completed a short leg version. Both versions are in high rotation in my son’s PJ drawer!  The choice of fabric will really impact the style of this Romper.  I could see younger kids wearing this romper all day! 

The pattern also come with a T-shirt pattern with or without shoulder closer.  I made one for my daughter with the V-Neck option.   I love when a pattern can be used for both girls and boys.

This pattern is currently only available through the One Thimble magazine issue 13 or individuel pattern at FAM ou One Thimble here. It should be available on the FAM website after the exclusivity agreement. 

 

The One Thimble (affiliate link) magazine is a digital sewing magazine (PDF document) made by sewing enthusiasts for sewing enthusiasts! The issue 13 features 10 PDF patterns and articles/tutorial/interviews.   I saw some sneak peeks of the patterns and I’m looking forward to try a few of the patterns in this latest issue.  I’m very interested by the Sofilantjes Orbis Skinny Harem pants and the Boo! Designs Ultimate Suit.   I’m also very curious about a few of the tutorials “Tips for putting in & removing snaps” and “Sewing with knit & leather”.  I have leather that I want to use for a handbag when I get to it on the to-do list!

Il y a quelques semaines, j'ai eu la chance de tester le dernier patron des Filles à Maman "One Romper". Ce n'était pas la première fois que je testais pour Mélanie. Je suis très heureuse de vous montrer un projet pour mon grand garçon.

Le One Romper est disponible dans les tailles 1 à 14 et est offert avec des manches courtes. L'option manches longues sera disponible gratuitement sur le site de la FAM (lien affilié) sous peu.

Les principales caractéristiques sont:

Au cours des tests, j'ai fait une version de pantalon court. Les deux versions ne passent pas beaucoup de temps dans le tiroir de pyjamas de mon fils! Le choix du tissu aura vraiment un impact sur le style de ce romper. Je peux voir les enfants plus jeunes porter ce romper toute la journée!


Le patron inclus un T-shirt sans la patte à l'épaule. J'ai fait un essai pour ma fille avec l'option V-Neck. J'aime quand un patron peut être utilisé pour les filles et les garçons.

Ce patron est actuellement disponible uniquement dans le numéro du magazine One Thimble 13  (lien affilié) ou ou en vente individuel ici. Il devrait être disponible sur le site Web de  FAM après la période d'exclusivité.

Le magazine One Thimble (lien affilié) est un magazine de couture numérique (document PDF) réalisé par des amateurs de couture pour les amateurs de couture! La revue #13 comprend 10 patrons PDF et articles / tutoriel / entrevues. J'ai vu plusieurs photos des patrons inclus et je suis impatiente d'essayer quelques-uns des patrons dans ce dernier numéro.
