Halloween 2021

I'm  super exited that we are back to a ''normal'' life and the kids will be able to go out and enjoy the night.  This year, I created costumes that the kids can be comfortable to wear at school for the day.

First up, Free Guy this is the main character from Ryan Reynolds latest movie. We really loved the movie and this pre-teen loved video games.  I used Love Notions Cargo pants pattern and swiss army shirt from pattern niche.

Costume number 2, is a Ghostbuster jumpsuit.  I created the jumpsuit from a brand new pattern from Apostrophe patterns .  This was the bunny costume which is a customized pattern, not typical patterns based on standard sizes.  Instead, the pattern is custom-drawn based on your measurement specifications, fabric choice and sewing preferences (i.e seam allowance).  This is a very interesting new way to look at pattern.  This was available free until 31 Oct. This version was missing a little bit of ease for woven fabric.

I also included a Cricut designs.  The collar was drafted using the swiss army shirt collar.

The last costume was for my teenager, I created a Waldo outfit.  The hat was created using the Rebecca Page winter hat (size 10).  The tee is the freebie Green Tee* from Greenstyle (size D).

Happy Halloween!

Greenstyle - Lumia

Hello,

I'm super existed to show you my latest pattern testing opportunity with Greenstyle creations.  The Lumia is your own version of a perfect fitting jacket of the famous brand Lululemon.

This beautiful style hoodie has a full zip, large pockets, 3 pieces hood or collar options and sleeve cuff options.  I really like the back yoke, giving so much style to this jacket.

The pattern is unisex, I will definitely try to make a version of this pattern for the man in my life. The instructions were easy to follow and includes nice finishing details including covering the edge of the  zipper.  I used some hand stitching to ensure my top stitching the collar and bottom band.

Note from this project:

Black version :
  • Fabric from Discovery Fabric* - Polartec Power Shield lightweight
  • Lumia* Size D reduce 1 1/2''  to the body length and 1'' sleeve
  • Zipper 24'

Fuchsia version :
  • Fabric from Oiseau Fabric - French Terry medium weight
  • Lumia* Size D reduce 1' 1/2''  to the body length and sleeve
  • Zipper 24''

These were fun projects to do and will wear a lot.  I may also try to do the1/2 zipper hack version from the Greenstyle blog*.

Take care,

Nadine

5 out of 4 patterns - Michelle Fitted tee

Hello,

I continue my adventure as a Brand Ambassador with 5 out of 4 Patterns.  It is the turn of my princess to show off her new tee.  I made her a new dry fit tee, using the Michelle fitted tee*.

The tee is fitted through the bust, waist and hip, making it perfect to wear as an underlayer.  My princess is a competitive hockey player with multiple hours on the ice and off the ice training. My fabric is highly technical, with moisture -wicking abilities and the best part quick drying!

I was looking for a fitted t-shirt with a high neckline but not too high. I didn't want to interfere with her equipment.

The pattern comes with a few options:

- Regular front bodice or Full bust adjustment front bodice;
- Three sleeve lengths : Short, 3/4 or long; and
- Two hem lengths: top or tunic

The Michelle fitted tee is part of the basic collection, and perfect for beginner sewists.  The patterns requires a light to medium weight knit fabric with at least 50% stretch (2-way or 4-way).

My sewing notes :

My princess is 5'2'' with a short torso. I made one adjustment to the length which was a reduction of 1.5'' at the natural waist.

Pattern Michelle Fitted Tee* in size: XXS

Fabric: Tech jersey Mars Red from Discovery Fabrics* 88% Polyester 12% spandex 4-way stretch :65% side-to-side 35% lengthwise.  I used the same fabric for the neckband.

Happy sewing!

Nadine

* Affiliate links to 5 out of 4 and Discovery Fabric have been included in this post and I received a free copy of the pattern as a member of the brand ambassador program.

5 out of 4 - Kids Sheila Everyday Tee

Patron : Kids Sheila* grandeur 10

Bonne semaine,

Nadine

Rebecca Page - Skinny Jeans -

Hello,

Rebecca Page* just released their latest pattern, the skinny jeans*.   The pattern includes two main options, your authentic pair of skinny jeans and oh-so-comfortable pair of jeggings!

These full length jeans have a super skinny fit with high waist.  Both options have front western style pockets, a back yoke and optional back pockets.

A few other options includes belt loops, zipper fly or faux fly option and elastic waistband or button closure.  I completed the jeggings option with the faux fly and elastic waistband.  I used my serge-overlocker for all the seams but the pattern includes step by step tutorial to complete flat fell seam at the inner leg and French seam for the outer leg.

The size chart goes from XXS to 5XL (waist from 25 to 50 inch 63.5CM to 127 cm). I completed the size small.  This pattern is designed to fit a height of 5 foot 6.  So, I'm a little shorter than that!  I made a few adjustments to the rise (crotch) to accommodate my height and body shape.

  • Remove length to the rise in the front and back.
  • Change the crotch curve at the back. (small adjustment)
  • Remove length in 3 areas from the leg.
I highly recommend a muslin for any fitted pant pattern to adjust to your personal body.  Fitted jeans can be a bit of an art, but once you perfect how to fit them for your body type and shape, they are such a wonderful addition to your wardrobe!  Remember to use a similar type of fabric for your muslin.  I made a quick muslin to check my adjustments and I skipped the faux fly.

Need support with fitting follow this tutorial Pants Adjustment - Rebecca Page (rebecca-page.com*)

For the fabric, I used a super stretchy jegging fabric which has the look of denim.

  • 90% cotton/5% polyester/5% spandex
  • 50-60% stretch
  • Fabric weight is 300 gsm
  • colour Black

It is available from L'Oiseau Fabric (looking for a discount on your first order, have a look at my resources page.)

Take care,

Nadine

Back to school - Retour en classe

Hello, We are slowly going back to normal in my corner of the world.  I have high hope we will stay away from the roller coaster of last year. The kids were back and forth between the in-class and virtual learning.

I started my back to school sewing with a pair of cargo pants from Love Notions.  I bought the Vanguard Kit when it came out in 2018! I made the t-shirt a few times but this was my first time trying the cargo pants.

I really like the design features. The side pocket is designed in an angle and the cute fold at the knee.

The outfit also features the Jalie Nico raglan. This T-shirt pattern is a staple for my boys.  I used this pattern for swim rash guard and under layer shirt for hockey.

I love the size chart from the Jalie pattern collection (kids to adult). The fabric for the raglan t-shirt is from Discovery Fabric.  It is a technical jersey fabric (polyester/spandex) and a great option for hot summer days. The fabric is moisture-wicking and quick drying.

Journal notes:

Modification to the cargo pants, Vanguard kit pattern: I used a size 8 and modified the crotch length to match size 10.  I extended the length and moved the knee details.

Nico raglan tee #3669 : size N with extended length

Fabric:

Cargo pants: cotton poplin, camouflage black from l'oiseau Fabrics.

T-shirt: Tech Jersey, Rust from Discovery Fabric (180 gsm, 4-way stretch 65% side-to-side, 35% lengthwise)

If you are looking to save money on fabric, I have reference program links on the resources page.

Take care,

Bonne rentré à tous!

George and Ginger - The Janis top

Hello,

I did some selfish sewing, a new fun piece in my wardrobe for the fall. I have this pattern since the release in spring 2019 and finally give it a try.

George and Ginger has upgraded their sizes chart, you can find this pattern under the old school section (old size chart from tween size to adult 26).

I had selected another fabric for this project. When it was time to cut, I realized that my fabric was not wide enough (width of 125cm). Instead,  I used a fabric with a width measurement of 160cm.

This pattern has only a few pattern pieces, but it took a little while to make the gathered sleeve and ties. Next time, I will maybe use ribbon for the ties similar to the cover picture of the pattern.

Journal notes:

Fabric Bamboo Jersey knit (250 gsm - 95% bamboo rayon, 5% spandex) Huckleberry from L'Oiseau Fabric (check the resources page for a discount on your first order)

Pattern The Janis* top size 6

Overall I think it is a perfect top for a date night! I love the gathered sleeves and the slimmer waist.

take care,

Nadine
