The Fabric Geeks - The Mix #1 (part 1)

I am so excited to share with you some of my creations from the month of January. The Fabric Geeks send me a bunch of new strike off of the new preorder "The Mix #1". This one has no specific theme but full of print for everyone.

In case your are new to The Fabric Geeks, their fabrics are digitally printed cotton lycra fabric with a weight ranging from 250-270 gsm.

First up is one of my favourite, the "Namaste". This one is a fun print for all the yoga lovers.

Je suis très contente de vous présenter mes projets du mois de janvier. J'ai testé quelques tissus de la nouvelle précommande. Cette dernière, ''The Mix #1'' inclus un peu de tout pour tous.

Je débute avec mon tissu préféré de la collection, le ''Namaste''. Ce tissu est parfait pour tous ceux qui aime le Yoga.

For this print, I used the Agility tank* from 5 out of 4 patterns. This was not my first time using this pattern and it is becoming a fun summer staple in our house. I really like the overlay style of this tank. I used fold over elastic for the binding.

J'ai choisi un patron que j'ai découvert l'été dernier. L'Agility tank* de 5 out of 4 patterns était parfait pour ce tissu.

For the second print, I tried a new designer Made By Jack's Mum (MBJM).

En deuxième temps, j'ai choisi de faire l'essai d'un nouveau patron de la collection Made By Jack's Mum.

I selected the Explorer Raglan T-Shirt to feature the graffiti & monochrome doodles print from the current preoder. The graffiti is a fun print and great discussion with the younger generation. Mom, what is a Boombox? What are the cassettes for?

C'était la première fois que je travaillais avec l'Explorer Raglan. Je crois que c'était un bon choix pour mettre en valeur le ''Graffiti'' & ''Monochrome''. Le Graffiti est un retour en arrière avec les cassettes et la radio. Maman, c'est quoi une cassette?

This pattern comes with multiple options:

4 sleeve lengths (long, three quarter, short and retro rolled);
straight hem and low backed curved hem;
colour blocking; and
snap close neckline (perfect for the smaller sizes).

Le patron inclus plusieurs options:

4 grandeurs de manche;
ourlet droit ou courbé à l'arrière;
blockage de couleur; et
fermeture à l'encolure (parfait pour les plus jeunes).

Jennuine Design - Skiff tee

Hello,

Last week, I had the chance to test the latest pattern from Jennuine Design. The Skiff Tee pattern is a simple slim-fitting tee with a bateau neckline.

The Skiff Tee is available in children’s sizes newborn to 12 years. The pattern includes a few options straight hem, vented hem with a slightly longer back and secret chest pocket!

I’m sure it would become a staple with the color blocking details on the bodice and sleeve. The skiff is meant for girls and boys, Jenn is working on an expansion pack to take the Skiff Tee into a Skiff dress. I cannot wait to try it!

Un beau bonjour,

La semaine dernière, j'ai eu la chance de tester le dernier patron de Jennuine Design. Le tee-shirt* skiff est un chandail simple avec un encolure en bateau.

Le tee-shirt skiff est disponible en tailles nouveau-nés jusqu'à 12 ans. Le patron comprend quelques options ourlet droit, ourlet ventilé avec un dos légèrement plus long et poche secrète au niveau de la poitrine.

Je suis sûr qu'il deviendra un patron de base avec les détails. Moi j'adore le detail au niveau du dos.

Le skiff est destiné aux filles et aux garçons, Jenn travaille sur un patron d'extension pour prendre le tee Skiff et en faire un version complèment fille, pensez robe.

Love Notions - Thomas Track Pants

Good day,

I'm very pleased to present you the latest pattern from Love Notions - Thomas Track Pants.*

Those pants are perfect for all those active boys (or girls). You can use a variety of woven and stable knit fabric to reach the look you are looking for. This pattern is full of options. I tested the view A without any option. The view A could also be lined. The other options are seams pockets and zippers at the ankles.

This pattern also includes a color blocked version. I will be trying that version for sure! I just need to find the perfect fabric. The pattern is offered in a wide range of sizes (2T - 14).

For my version i used a textured sweatshirt (50% cotton/ 50% polyester). The fabric is available at L'Oiseau Fabric.

During testing I made a few pairs, including a comfy pair of lounge pants out of flannel fabrics.

Un beau bonjour, je suis vraiment contente de vous présenter le dernier patron de Love Notions - Thomas Track Pants*. Ce patron est parfait pour tous les sportifs (fille ou garçon). Le patron est offert dans les tailles de 2T à 14 ans.

Le patron convient pour des tissus tissés ou tricot épais, vous permettant d'avoir le style recherché.

Durant la période de test, j'ai fait la version A du patron avec un tricot épais. J'ai utilisé un cotton ouaté, ce tissu est disponible à l'Oiseau Fabric.

Le patron inclus aussi la possibilité d'ajouter une doublure, des poches et des fermetures éclaires aux chevilles.

Avez-vous vu la version B ci-haut, avec des tissus contrastants? Je vais l'essayer c'est sure. Vous pouvez aussi utilisé ce patron pour faire un pantalon pyjama en flanelle.

Challenge - Defi #2

Good day,

Second week of the sewing challenge and I'm already behind posting here!

The goal last week was to sew something from the last fabric we bought. I accepted the challenge and used the merino jacquard knit I ordered from the L'oiseau Fabric.

Jacquard knits are a special fabric, the yarn is dyed separately then knitted together to create beautiful design. This fabric absorbs moisture without feeling damp and is gentle on the skin making it the perfect choice for long underwear for our upcoming ski trip.

For the top, I used ''Hang Ten Rash Guard'' from Peek-a-boo*. I bought this pattern a few years ago and used it before for hockey underwear with dry-fit fabric.

For the bottom, I used ''All you need jammies pajamas'' from Heidi & Finn. Another pattern that I used multiple times.

Note on the fabric, Merino wool is by nature antibacterial, it doesn't require washing. If it is required, preferably wash by hand in lukewarm water with wool washing agent or olive oil soap.

Deuxième semaine du défi de couture et je suis déjà en retard avec ma publication sur le blog! Le but de la semaine dernière était de coudre quelque chose avec le dernier tissu que nous avons acheté.

J'ai accepté le défi et utilise un tricot de jacquard Merino que j'ai commandé chez L'oiseau Fabric.

Le tricots de jacquard sont des tissue spéciaux, les fils sont teint séparament puis tricot ensemble pour créer le tissu. Ce tissu absorbe l'humidité sans se sentir humide et est très doux sur la peau. Donc le choix parfait pour des sous-vêtements pour notre prochain voyage de ski.

Pour le haut, j'ai utilisé le ''Hang Ten Rash Guard'' de Peek-a-boo*. J'ai acheté ce patron il y a déjà quelques années, j'ai fait des sous-vêtement de hockey avec du tissu ''dry-fit''.

Pour le pantalon, j'ai utilisé ''All you need jammies pajama'' de Heidi & Finn. Un autre patron que j'ai utilisé plusieurs fois.

Note sur le tissu, la laine Merino est par nature antibactérien et n'a pas besoin d'être lavé. Si un lavage est nécessaire, il est preferable de laver à la main dans l'eau tiède avec un agent de lavage pour la laine ou un savon d'huile d'olive.

52 Week Sewing Challenge - Défi Couture 2018

Happy New Year - Bonne Année 2018 !

At the end of 2017, I joined the Facebook group - 52 Week Sewing Challenge. The goal of this group is to complete one sewing project every week. Each week we are challenged to make something related to the theme of the week.

En décembre, j'ai join le groupe Facebook 52 Week Sewing Challenge. L'objectif du défi est de coudre un projet toutes les semaines en suivant les thèmes identifiés Vous trouverez ici-bas les thèmes de janvier.

Below is the first month themes:

I'm starting my first week strong with something for my growing boy. I used the 11th hour pattern from New Horizons Designs*.

I was very happy with the results and will be using this pattern again and again. The pattern features a complete set of PJ/Loungwear.

Je débute mon défi en force avec un ensemble pyjamas pour mon plus grand. J'ai utilisé le patron de New Horizons Designs* 11th hour. Je dois dire que j'adore ce patron et que je vais l'utiliser plusieurs fois. Le patron comprend un ensemble complet de pyjamas.

I used the straight leg pants pattern which was perfect for flannel fabric. The shirt is a slim fit silhouette, great fit on this skinny boy.

J'ai utilisé le pantalon à jambe droite avec le tissu de flanellette. Tellement doux!!! Le chandail a une silhouette étroite, parfait pour mon garçon maigrichon.

I already planned the month of January. Next up is "sew something from the last fabric you have purchased".

Last Call 2017!

Handmade Holiday Tour

Hello,

I love this time of the year. Holiday music, baking, hot chocolate and marshmallows, and best of all watching “Home Alone” with the kids. The kids always laugh at the robbers when they try to get into the house (burning handle, iced front steps, tool box coming down the stairs…). I love holiday traditions and I thought for this Love Notions Holiday Handmade blog tour I would share with you one of my family holiday handmade traditions.

This tradition started when my princess was a baby. I was shopping at my local fabric store and saw a cute Angel print and decided to make her a new holiday pajama to wear on Christmas morning. Not only was it fun but made for great photos in the morning. This was the beginning of a 10 year holiday tradition of kids matching pajamas for Christmas morning.

Usually, I select a new style for my Christmas morning pjs. This year, I selected two Love Notions patterns: Prisma Dress & Moto Maxx . The Moto Maxx pj version is not new in our house, I have made a few of them using that pattern but they are now all too small for my middle child.

First up is the Prisma dress* , I made no modifications to the pattern. I selected the scoop version, ¾ sleeve length and went up one size. I was looking for a more loose style to ensure sleeping comfort. If you have a closer look at the picture you can see another family holiday tradition. My husband and I are having quite some fun with that guy. As you can see, he gets in trouble almost every night!

Secondly, I made the Moto Maxx for the boys pjs. No modification to the pattern. I skipped the pockets making it a quick sew! I usually make the short sleeve version but I received a special request from this guy.

My princess’ AG doll also get her own version of this year Christmas pjs. I used the latest pattern Doll LDT that was released during this Handmade Holiday Tour.
